Smile Cultivating a Citrus?

Hi,
I live in Delaware, and I was told it could be possible to cultivate a citrus (Orange Tree) up here. A person I was talking to, said it could be possible to grow it in a greenhouse and slowly (said it would take years) expose it to more and more cold. He said the fruit may not be the same, or something like that.

I've read that other trees have been cultivated, and ended up splitting into sort of, a sub spices and was able to ajust to the climate...

How would I go about this with a tree with the temperate of a tropical climate?
