Lightbulb Crabapple Trees...

Hello,

I have 4 crabapple trees, one in the front yard and three in the back yard. The one in the front yard has dark rose colored flowers and although it flowered well this spring, the leaves fell off, most of them, except the ones on the ends/tips of the brances which have multiple blooms and leaves. The bark on the tree also looks rather dark. We did have a cocoon on it and one in the back yard, but we cut the branch off on the one in the front yard and just sprayed Seven on the one in the back yard.

Can someone tell me if this is scab and what to do about it? I purchased some fungicide that requires me to spray the tree...it is early September here. I'm wondering if I should spray it now? Also, do I use a hoseend sprayer and would that be okay... The fungicide is a Bayer brand that I purchased at Lowes.

I love crabapple trees and would like to try to keep them all but the one in the front yard, as I said is bare throughout except on the ends.

Thanks, I appreciate your help!

All sounds a little weird to me. A cocoon and you cut the branch off?? Why did you cut a branch off, I'm not really getting this story clearly.

Can you get some pictures.

Hello,

Thanks for replying. The cocoon in the front yard was at the end of the limb so we just cut it off there. It was not a lot of the branch, just a small portion.

I will try to get some photos this weekend. Thanks again!
