Default Corymbia ficifolia

The Corymbia pictured has a burl to its base and the bark adjacent to and below the burl is shedding

It is located in Melbourne Australia

Anyone have any clues as to what, why etc

Thanks

Upon further investigation here are some more pictures of this tree

I have consulted with and questioned several arborists regarding the burl in the first post - two from councils and one in private practice - one council arborist even directed me here

Just goes to show what great work Eric has done for all of us by establishing this forum

Today with a a close mate - he is one of the best all round horticulturists I know with a large maintenance gardening round in some of Melbourne's prestige suburbs and 4 staff - we revisited the site

The leaves are infected but look at the second picture - real damage to a main leader, black discolouration running down it - the burl has formed below it under a branch union

This PDF shows Corymbia ficifolia resistant to Phytophthora cinnamomi but that is only based on observation.

Does anyone know anything about Ramularia in Corymbia ficifolia and could this be it in the attached pictures?

I am having it tested over the next couple of days and will post results

The wounds in your photographs resemble those produced by Quambalaria coryecup infections in C.calophylla and C.ficifolia. If closer inspection shows the lesions to have multiple concentric circles of wound wood much like a bulls eye then it is worth asking your lab to consider Marri dieback as a possible cause.
