About a year ago I bought a house that has a Coast Redwood on the property. A few months ago I had to cut a good sized peice of root from the Coast Redwood to prevent it from ruining my sprinkler system. Now a sizable portion of the smaller branches seem to be turnig brown and droping off. The thing that is most odd is that on the same branch some of the sprigs will be turning brown, and the ones right next to them will not be. I wasn't sure if this was a result of the root being cut, or if this was just normal for the tree to drop some of it's branches. If it is a result of the root being cut are there any suggestion on what I could do to help the tree from dieing? Any help would be appreciated. -Ryan |

id say its a result of cuting the roots. some pics of the trees canopy, overall tree and root system, plus were you have cut, would make it easer to see whats going on. steve

"A few month ago I CHOSE to cut a good sized peice of root, which is important to the survival of a living coast redwood to prevent it from ruining my non-living sprinkler system. I CHOSE not to consult an arborist or a sprinkler system installer to see what my options were. I damaged my living tree, and now I am seeing the signs of it, I think. What should I do now. Luckily, my non-living sprinkler system is continuing to non-live a happy non-life, and functions as it should, but I'm kicking myself for not having good information before acting to prevent something that was not a crisis situation" | |
