Hi there. I need help choosing an appropriate tree species to go along a fence line. Location is Tasmania, Australia. The species would need to be frost & drought tolerant. No taller than 3m height & not too bushy. The ground can be quite rocky in parts but it is good soil. I'm open to any suggestions as I'm having trouble finding anything suitable. Thanks. Alexis

Not familiar with what grows in Tasmania, but would serviceberry (Amelanchier sp) or Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) or Privet (Ligustrum sp) work? All would need to be trimmed to keep to the 10 ft height, but all are frost tolerant - in Toronto easily withstand -25C and all are fairly drought tolerant, and not fussy about soil. I believe the last two are considered weeds in Australia -- a weed being a plant that grows where it isn't wanted or needed -- but many "weedy" plants are real survivors, and can tolerate conditions more domesticated or tamer plants can't abide.
