Hi there, I have a small cape lilac tree which is growing against my neighbours fence and causing some damage. She would like me to remove it. I believe it is one of the spurs from the very large main tree. If i poison the small tree it could damage the main tree. If i dig it out (this is a big job apparently) will it damage the roots of the main tree and i will end up with root rot in the main tree ? (i've read cape lilacs are very susceptible to this) Or should i chop it down to a stump and seal the wound (any product recommendations warmly received)... but will this just lead to stronger re-growth and more fence probs down the track.. Hmmm... any suggestions |

That is easy -- move the fence. Since the tree seems to grow fast, why not just plant another in a better spot, that is -- if you are unwilling to move the small one. Most trees are susceptible to rot --
