| My camphor tree has a hole on the trunk that has liquid coming out, can someone tell me what causes that disease and how to treat it?

I am not familiar with camphor trees. But, what does the exudate smell like - ie does it smell like water, or the tree sap - if so prob not a problem; does it smell nauseating or like pus? may be, for example a bacterial/viral /fungal infection - if so can sometimes be treated. If you could get a sample to a lab and get the reason for the goop identified - it would be easier to give advice. If not, drilling a hole (45 degrees upward) below (and one or more above) the outpouring towards the centre of the tree can quantify the size of the infection. If stuff dribbles out, the infection may be larger than the drill holes. Once the size of the infection is identified, an anti-bacterial, and/or anti-viral, and/or anti-fungal solution can be dripped in, and the infection may be stopped -- maybe. Drilling holes creates more rot in the trunk, and can spread the infection further -- so this solution can create more problems than it solves. Or, if the tree is fairly healthy eg good shoot tip growth for several years running (it doesn't look like a new problem), watering and fertilizing the tree, and ensuring its health is maintained can mean the tree will deal with the problem itself.

I had a Hybrid Poplar that had that on it. The guy selling the trees called it "canker". He said it won't go away, so, after 13 years, I cut it down.

Most camphor's I've seen with that kind of ooze usually get Hypoxallin canker, unfortunately there is not treatment i know of,just keep it properly pruned, mulch it,and let time take its course.
