Bugs are eating my trees.....please help!

I live in the state of Oregon in the US. Last night I noticed something has been eating the leaves on different trees in my yard. I was able to find some several bugs on one of the trees. I have tried to attach pictures. I have a few questions....
What are these bugs?
How can I get rid of them and save my trees?
Why are these bugs attacking my trees?

Ah, zip files suck, but I had a look.

Chewing insects and caterpillars.

Spray with ....

Imidacloprid

Quote:

Or visit a good nursery and ask them when you are buying as there is many different products out there that will bowl over those bugs. But the one suggested is probably the least toxic from a bad bunch.

Better product would be Neem® oil and Safer Soap.

Insects cannot develop a resistance to this combination.
