i would like to move a few trees and give some to a neighbor, would now be a good time to move them if they have stopped growing for the summer?

The colder seasons provide the best time for transplanting shade trees. Depending on there size a extended protocol of hardening off the root system prior to transplanting would be ideal. How big are they? Are they volunteers that came up on there own or did you plant them from containers. If so how long ago. What species? pictures? There are definitely more qualified Arborist on this forum that have hands on experience transplanting large trees(Sean freeman has a thread called "large tree transplanting)i think But if no one else has anything to say and they gotta get dug or your going to cut them down then nows the time. |

My personal experience is limited to tropical tree species growing in tropical and sub-tropical climates. Some general pointers that might be of use are included in the attached pdf. F-359.pdf |

Move them when the leaves turn.
