Red face Badly cut tree limb - what to do now?

I was recently attempting to remove a medium-sized limb from a tree in my yard. I attempted to cut the underside first to prevent tearing. Unfortunately, halfway through the branch, the weight of the limb pulled it down, causing a deep crack in the middle of the limb. Here are a few pictures of what the wound looks like.

Any suggestions? Would this be a case fro cleaning and sealing? I'm not sure that I can afford an arborist, but if that is the only solution, I just want to know.

Thanks!

Call an arborist, there's more issues there.

Also use the search button about stuff like sealers and wound paints.

Agreed with Ekka to Seek arborist for intial tree assessment. The tree seem badly pruned few years ago and the previous pruning cuts have started to rot. (Black section).

Yes it is a tricky cut to make to repare the damage from this break and last time.
Why sealers and wound paints?????????? They are of no benifit at all, but can be harmfull. The bituminous paints kill plant cells and the others keep the oxygen away to help the yeast grow (this is usually the first thing to attack wounds and they prepare the surface for the destructive fungi that are to follow).
Shigo reported on the work he did on this in the early to mid 70's if I remember correctly. The only use I know of is to make fresh cuts less obvious.

My comment was neither positive nor negative toward sealers and wound paints .... but all the information is there for people to read and make their own mind up.
