Default Antelope Valley, Ca. zone &suitable tress

I live in the Antelope Valley area of Ca. Depending on which nursery you talk to, we are zone 9 to zone11. I want to line my circular driveway with some alternating trees such as Tulip Poplars and October Glory Maples(Acer Rubrum).I see other types of Poplars 10 miles away in town and also Bradford Pears which would contast with the yellow Tulip Poplars. But Bradfords are not "full" enough for me, that's why I'm considering the maples.
Is it feasable to plant the first 2 trees mentioned in this climate? When I look at Nursury websites they show "all-green" ...good-to-plant, for all of California. However, before I spend a lot of money, I wanted to get an honest opinion!
The obvious question to ask myself is, "have I seen any of the trees I want planted close by my neighborhood". No, I haven't, but maybe my neighbors are not as interested in beautifull trees.
