im saying that anything that enters into the bark of a tree is a foreign object to it, therefore the tree will compartmentalize around it, or the would in produces, so a climber with "spiky bits on his shoes" IS damaging the tree to do his job..............

are we not in the industry of caring for trees? to me this is a bad Climbing habit for pruning... as Therrin says, spikes or shoes with spikes are for takedowns only!

and as for ease of climbing............. there's plenty of us out there climbing and pruning day in day out without spurs, or spikes, it ain't that hard man!
