Default Vermeer 1800 xl Chippers to Australia

Ok here goes. My understanding is that you can import chippers into Australia with out incuring import tax if they have been run for 300hrs.

I only buy 170hp vermeer 1800xl with winches. List price over in Aus $93,000 + GST (10%).

From looking at the prices in the US I could pick up machine with 300hrs for between 30 - 40K. And with a conversion rate of 0.93 you do the maths.

I would like to look at importing from US to Aus. Anyone have contacts or interested in getting involved from the US. Obviously will make deal attractive to both parties. No hurry next 3 - 6 months fine.

All opinions welcome!!!!

Yes I think you still have to pay the GST, but I think there is and addition 25% import tax on a new machine/one with less than 300 hrs, which would kill the saving somewhat.

Just had a look at CALIFORNIA TREE EQUIPMENT, will send him an email and see what he has coming up. thanks

I know a import broker 30years exp, he is going to call me tommorow with the exact things needed. As its going to be road registered there may well be some paperwork involved.

But he said theres LOTS of interest in imports from the USA at the moment...

As far as reliability goes, very impressed. I run four of them at the moment and have very little dramas. I also get exceptional customer service which goes a long long way!!!

I'm not saying they don't break down, they do, but it is normally through operator error. But you expect a little of that when you hire them out.

I have looked at the bandits and have not gone with them because:

customer service is a two hours drive from my house (out near ipswich)

lots of levers and things

Vermeers and are covered in and pretty much idiot proof.

hey arg
I think to import a "vehicle" you have to pay and do paperwork with DOTARS (Dept of transport....etc). Just check this out as the paperwork can take a while.
Good Luck

It can be done economically. A friend of mine privately imported a BC 1800A and a 672 grinder on seperate occasions. Both were low hour used machines from USA.

Lopa, does that include freight to Oz? Do they stick it in a container. If so alot of other goodies could go in there.
