Have a project ahead where a self propelled track chipper would be the perfect answer. Anybody know of a source for hire of one??? |

Greenmech make one, maybe see if you can demo it? Is something like a Landcruiser towing a chipper a possible option, that will probably be the easiest.

Bandit and vermeer also have chippers with tracked undercarriage haven't seen many around except one for sale a couple of years ago.I don't even know if Aspac has imported a tracked Greenmech yet.Try ringing the various companies see if they can put you in contact with anyone who owns one and might hire it.If not a small chipper behind a 4wd or small tractor. We have put a tow hitch on a tracked bobcat and put a small chipper in to some very steep and tight places.

I'll get in touch with aspac. Thought of other ways like 4x4/positrac & 6-9" chipper would work but i dont have either and our bc1800 chipper is 3200kg. |

What kind of terrain are you trying to cross? I know our little truck is surprisingly quite capable off road for being a 2wd, unless its steep hills or off the road your truck with 4wd support vehicle should handle most things.

hey trev we have to towed a chipper with our ASV-R posi track and its works alright, no trailer brakes though so you gotta be really careful. it was a 1290xp bandit from memory, the posi chewed heaps of fuel as well ay

The terrain is steep, narrow, windy, lined with trees and a creek down the bottom. Dont want to lose a chipper and ute trying. |

I was cutting a fire break next to a national park today and spotted a kubota 4x4 tractor with a pto chipper on the back.Looked like it could handle 4"or5".He was travelling pretty fast up narrow park track so I couldn't jump the fence and try and catch up with him.He was definetly a contractor because I know the local national park crew havn't got one.Thought it might be a solution to your problem as alot of companies make pto variations of there small chippers. There compact because they just hang on the 3 point linkage of the tractor and you probably have more chance of finding a complete unit for hire than a tracked chipper.I think some go up to 9".

Thanks, i might try to track something like that down. I have a bit of time. We started there today & will do 3 days of "cut & leave" pruning. Then back after xmas for about another 10 days inc. chipping. If all else fails we can walk ours in at the start & back out at the end with an excavator. |

If you got access to an excavator use that to tow it in, we use bobcats to get our tow behind stumpy better access and sometimes have used one to move the chipper. Excavator should handle the chipper quite well.

ive moved the chipper with our excavtors, having an aticulated mainboom makes its heaps easier, d-shackle the chains on the chipper to the quick-hitch,

A guy down in tassie imports small tracked ones from Japan, he has a hire one and would probably sell it. It may be a little small, it probably will only take 4-5 inch

Had a guy in there today with a positrack doing pathway preparation. He reckons it'd be a bit heavy for him... We really need a big chipper in there, there is a LOT of stuff to process. Already we have worked on some great trees. A spectacular Algerian Oak (40m x 40m, 1600mm dbh) Douglas Fir (50+m) Calif Redwood (60+m 2100 dbh) Beech, Horse Chestnut, Hickory, Lime, Mountain Ash and lots more uncommon species to come. There are a couple of supposedly very rare Chinquapin Japanese Oaks too, the pair are believed to be the only ones in australia .
