Default TORO STX26 stumpgrinder

Hey fellas,

Has anybody used or does anybody own one of these?? whats the feedback??

Toro | STX-26 Stump Grinder - 26hp (19.4kw)

On paper it appears an impressive machine and they claim to have sold a fair amount of them in Australia. I'm tempted to buy one.

have you had one out on a demo?
i had them bring one out a couple of months back it all depends on what you need it to do. it was to wide for me i needed to replace a small tight access machine and this was to big,but it was not big enough to be a large grinder my large machine would make it look real silly .let me know some specific questions and ill give you my opinion.

Gday mate. I have a tree company in the Brisbane area. I bought a Toro recently about 2 months ago. When you buy one it takes about 30 to 40 stumps to operate the machine properly. But when you buy one all stumps up to 800mm, you'll love it. I been in the industry for 30 yrs. i have had every kind of self propelled stumps grinder on the market. This machine will do any stump a stump humper will do and what ever your machine can't do the stump humper has got no chance at all.

For its size and its capability and be able to walk up stairs is a big plus and you wont go wrong with one of these. Happy grinding!

I had a go of one today.

I found it to be better than the factory Kanga Terminator one but not as good as my modified one.

It seems they have done their homework and the cutter wheel speed is right, slower than the Kanga terminator which runs way to fast (poor R&D). I'd guess the head is spinning around 1200rpm to 1500rpm maximum, too bad I cannot gear my Kanga to do the same.

I found that not having belts is better and the braking was smooth and really sweet.

I did find it a little crazy with where it would throw wood chip, not that my Kanga is much better at that problem. Where it seems to really excel is below ground. Most grinders handle the woody stump above ground easily, but when you are below the soil line and having to churn that clay over you feel the strain. This Toro unit did really well. I would rather that unit to a RG25, stump humper, Dosko etc.

The stump grinding of that Toro is nothing like the Dingo stump grinder which I have also tried. That Dingo hydraulic stump grinder is well .... bad! Gutless and slow, the Toro is way better.

Why do I have a Kanga, because it lifts logs and drags brush plus grinds stumps, but that hydro stump grinder as an accessory would be wild, maybe I could squeeze a little more grunt out of it with some mods? Who knows.

I ended up not going ahead with the demo because my grinder is just a year old-decided against taking the hit for selling such a near new piece second hand. Sounds like its worth a look if you're in the market.

Got a link to that?? I looked at the carlton range and no small tracked machine.

I do sub in a guy with the big carlton tracked 140hp it does a real good job.
