Hey guys,
just looking for some feedback on what you guys use, im starting to get asked for alotr of grinding work and was calling on your experience for what machine is value for money? am currently looking at a small husky machine as it seems to be the best bang for buck, any ideas are welcome, walk behind or self propelled?

Hi Treekiwi,
It depends on your needs and what you can afford to shell out to buy your first machine.John and I have Rayco 13 it's a good little machine starts first time everytime, Its even better..quicker at knocking out stumps now it has Tomahawk teeth...but it is a work out..as it's all manuall..We tag team for big stumps, But shorly does the job..It's restricted access as well you can even take it thru the house if you have to...but havent said this a hydraulic drive machine would be nice..my back love you long time...for hydraulics..but then you cant get into a lot of jobs..Horses for corses.
I'm shore the other boys will have reasons for their particular machine.

hi treekiwi
i have two machines. one a smalll manual like jayd and a large 44hp full remote hydraulic.
The small machine goes out 10:1 and cost 1/5 the price!
I always dream of a stump humper, and have used them many times. They are great.
But the manual machin gets me jobs thru door, up enbankments etc and is so simple it never letes me down/
Just keep the teeth sharp and the belts tight and yes, it is a good workout!Good luck.

rayco rg 20hd not even I can break this after 5 years of owning it(few cutter head bearings and teeth nothing major) and a kanga terminator head on a dingo mini loader. The rayco gets used more than the dingo.

Howdy Treekiwi,

Heres a short video of the grinder my mate uses, he's doing the stump from the tree i felled in my video.

Its a Red Roo, he has done some pretty big stumps for me and it seems to work quite well, as well as being reliable.

This is his second machine, the only fault he could pick was that the handbrake is a bit flimsy and wears out too quickly.
Heres the link as well.

Good luck.

Yeah blow using one of them, that's similar to the Dosko I had.

Hey, he needs to fit a centrifugal pre cleaner! Will save a lot of dirt getting in.

I'll mention that next time i speak to him, i saw the mod you did on yours.
Good idea and makes sense.

I wouldnt mind having this type of grinder myself, they're a lot cheaper than the hydaulic units.
As for the extra effort to use them,

well,

you've seen my video and i've seen yours, i dare say both of us could lose a few pounds without running the risk of being labelled anorexic!

Ive got a stump humper. Bloody ripper machine. So simple to use and maintain. And on small to medium stumps its quicker than our Rayco 1625a hydro machine.

G'day Playfordtree,
Thanks for the vid. The guys didn't seem to have the brake on and thus the machine was riding up the stump rather than cutting across the edge.
As jayD said, cut em to the ground. Make sure its one of your last cuts though after any blocking etc. You can blow the dirt or even hose it out. If you have a bad patch of dirt cut to fresh timber with an axe.
I have one of those red roo machines. very very reliable and quick when you have lots of practise. cheers

i think i have seen the husky machine that was mentioned it has a 13 hp honda engine pull start if its the same one I saw has two wheels on the back and two side bars for two guys to lift it into a truck. If I hated my back a little bit more I'd buy it.
