I believe tree people in general are prone to being over passionate and arrogant. It takes a unique individual who can do the stuff we do, we work the largest organisms on the planet. Any tree man (or lady) who is willing to do time on the ropes, time on the trees, develop business acumen, a scientific brain ? and all that goes with this kind of career path is by nature large of spirit.

To me an arborist is a modern day warrior; the greatest problem warrior?s face is managing the fighter within, knowing when to strike and when to pull back. Any of us who get through life without learning some surrender and humility never know self mastery and stay stuck in the void of the victim ? seesawing between the thug and the wimp.

We owe it to ourselves and the next generation to grow up, I am 40 this year and have grown up enough to admit that yes I?ve been the upstart, the thug, the whiner ? the victim and if I choose - let down myself by slipping back into the past.
As long as we need to prove ourselves, as long as we need to put others down, stand over people, be seen to be big in trees, big in life then what we are actually being is small because that is how we see ourselves. When someone comes along and pushes the button that reminds us of that we go into fight mode and all we do is validate our smallness, triggering more passion and more arrogance.

It was for me great to see you collectively work this drama out, gives me faith in this profession, and reminds me that together we can achieve much.

My utter regards Cassian?

Proud to be associated????????..

I was right, ....a savior. I am very impressed. A bit condescending but very good. And on a spike pad thread, no less!

Seriously, it is great to have you contributing here. You have a gift of insight.

No Kidding. Thank you, Cass.

That suggestive insight goes entirely for our world leaders, too, but we're not gonna discuss them because they don't wear spurs. Aside from all that, they could learn a great deal from a group of spike-wearing, familially dysfunctional, pad-preferenced, ego-charged treeguys in a highly derailed thread.

What was the thread about again?
Oh......right, spikes and spurs.
I hate to keep coming back to that,
but,
y'know????

Here's everything from Wesspur, the whole lineup, from the t-pads we flogged into submission, to the luxury editions we all agree and disagree on and whose lessons to world leaders comes from within.

I wish wesspur would take out an ad here at Treeworld. I just spent over $300 with them this last week. Didn't buy any spur pads, though, I'm OK.

Change or no change begins, or doesn't begin, now, or maybe later, but always in excellence, with you.

Eh, been gone for a bit, didn't even sleep at home last night. Got back and checked this out and went ..."wha......"

I primarily attacked Ozinus because of a pretty rude pm he sent me before we had even started arguing. it was baseless, he was stirring things up, and it pissed me off.

And no, I haven't used the caddy pads. I never said that I had, however, it doesn't take a genious to look at how they're made and see the effect.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how you can justify saying something like "a company wouldn't bother selling something if it wasn't worth having".

I had asked Ozinus how many people he had outfitted, and his response was to privately scour me, making assumptions, puffing up his chest and getting all arrogant. The fact that none of you saw that doesn't mean I just jumped the gun for no reason.

I think the issue is more what terms the climber is hired under.

Another forum member here in chat mentioned that his saddle is like underwear, don't borrow, don't loan. I'm more inclined to think someone knows what they're doing if they had their own saddle. To me, it's what keeps every yokel from coming and saying "yeah I can do that" and running around saying "oh I'm a climber, yup". I'd rather not just take someone's word for it without proof.

At least I have pics of me actually climbing. It's not like I'm blowing smoke just by having an opinion. When I had moved to chicago, I was calling tree companies and looking for work as a climber. About a dozen companies wouldn't even talk to me because I didn't have my own spikes. Apparently everyone over in the US doesn't work by the same really generous standards as places in the UK.

Cassian, and others, directly under your name is some wording, that too can be changed by me manually, look at Sean Freeman's etc.

The forum default wording changes as your posts increase by number, theme'd to altitude via flying to space travel.

Anyway, if you'd like something different there let me know via PM's, it's a good spot for something so think wise. I have my quals there coz many people who visit a forum etc want to know who runs it and what would they know. Imagine for example getting arb advice from a toolmaker who's generally pre-occupied on a forum for trolling and trash talk.

So, want a custom bit of wording, just PM me.

Oh, good to see you all kissed and made up.

Therrin, I have read and re-read your original post. It was to this that I sent you a pm. Now I will go with Sean on this one that I cannot hear your tone. But it appears to me that from a very neutral, nothing post of mine you attack me very personally and with fervour. I was angererd by this as I had in fact written nothing at that stage that suggested the response that you gave.
For clarification...By rigid I mean made of steel, not tight or properly fitting.

The two of you, for future reference, what happens in a PM, stays in a PM. The 'P' doesn't stand for 'public'.

Hey, here's what's happening in the spikes, spurs, hooks and irons world at e-bay.

Also, in your options you have an "ignore" feature, means you can see the forum and never the members post who is on your ignore list. And they cant PM you either.

Only works on here though not in the real world unfortunately.

Gladly will re-post upon request.
Nothing related to spikes, whatsoever.

Ummmm, back to spurs, pads and such. I would like to remind those looking for new pads or spurs that what works for one person or even many people, may not work for you. For me, I love the simple, stiff, metal braced L pads. They come off the spur shank at a slight angle, cause me absolutely no pain and can wear them all day long. I tried the Cadillac pads, desperately wanted them to work, but the top edge dug into my leg something fierce. Absolutely could not use them. Go figure.

Within rockclimbing there are several brands of shoe. Forgetting all else I can only wear one brand and all of that brand. But no other comfortably! I do not work for this brand nor will I advertise them It is simply the shape of my foot and the way other manufacturers mould their rubber that I cannot wear their shoe. Yet this brand, these people can wear as well as others.... I only seem to be able to eat canned tuna as well. NUTS
Dmc my leg may be thinner around the calves than yours(probably is with my pins) so rigidity = slop for me. In all things like this I know, not think or believe, I KNOW that you must do what is right for you because at any point if you are concerned about the gear you are wearing your mind won't be on the task ahead. This equals unsafe.
Everyone is different and has different qualifications for comfort, speed etc. You have quantified what makes you feel good to this guy and I hope he tries it. This is all we can do and I hope he arrives at a place where on another day he can say .....You must try it out cause it's individual but this is what I like.

I liked the "Caddy pads" but the foam padding kept tearing out. I then glued them on with "Shoe glue" or Goop brand adhesive and they never ripped loose again. In an effort to save weight i bought some Gekko's. They were very light and the pads were super comfortable, but the gaffs are made of soft low grade steel (plan on sharpening twice a day) So i drilled an extra hole & fitted w/ Buckingham spurs. I'm weird about gaffs & like to climb on short pole gaffs 90% of the time.

Hi Gents - love to be the devils advocate, and I have a challenge - what makes an arborist ? - I havent carried a set of spikes for 10 years.

I reckon tree men (warriors) climb trees not spike them, but then I also reckon an arborist doesnt cut trees down, I see an arborist as a tree carer not a tree remover - leave that to the tree loppers.

There is way to much emphesis on the roar of the wood chipper, the tools of the trade and penis size.

Here's to the age of the tree........
