Thought i'd start a thread to share different chipper truck set ups or what ever kind of rig people are using, as well as ideas of what you'd like if you could have it.

So post up your rig guys!

Let's see your stuff tho

Where there's smoke there's fire the ole saying went.

I smell smoke!

Cant help it, been around and you know, smoke is smoke after a while regardless of source (bloody incense stinks!)

Anyway, smoke sniffer is a thinking. If these trees were coming out with all that room they'd be felled, but ........ ?

So rather than fell dead trees they had the hazard reduced and retained habitat trees.

Hope I'm right, right?

sorry for the poor safety example, ppe is now mandatory, and strictly enforced the no shirt/shorts guy was the new guy, both are my brothers, they have much to learn, so do I.

bucket = 65ft, crane = 78ft(no jib), chip truck is 07, bucket is 06, crane/boom truck is 89. with the short boom and small truck I'm often roping out tops, and using the crane to pick wood, if we can get the truck close to the tree, on stable ground. we have a lil more equipment, just no pics.

I have a similar set up with a 70 ft bucket and 70 foot crane with a 25 foot jib.

I just sub a crane on the giant stuff and it gives me another man on the job (op) at the same time. I have prob. used my crane beyond its limits on occasions but there are things that can be done to make it safe. What kind of chipper/s are you running?

not sure, but its a lot, im 6ft 2in tall and i can stand up with room ta spare. the cab is so tall you could fall out and get killed the turning radius is amazing i would love to have the bucket in the same style as the chip truck, sept fer a rear mount w/ 75ft highranger .

This is my first attempt at posting pics here so I hope it works. This is my unit. I built it in my car garage 5 winters ago. I also park it in my car garage at the end of the work day. It has a 7 ton hoist side dump box, a 35 hp Morbark 8 inch[12"x8"] Morbark chipper and Vermeer 252 stump grinder side by side at the back. Tool box on side holds saws.
No company makes a unit like this so I had to make my own.

That's a pretty slick looking setup right there. No need to drive every truck you own the the job site. How much will that chip box hold? It looks pretty small.

The box hold alot of chips for what I do. I never bothered figuring out the yard size but inside dim. is 6'6"x8'x4'. I plan on replacing my 7' high garage door with a 9' one. So then I can add on 2' of box height. Any blocks I have to haul goes in the truck box, but we very rarely do that because here in cold winter Manitoba everyone wants the firewood. On a big removal job I just make a couple of phone calls and all the free wood is hauled away promptly. I tried firewood once and found there is no money in it. With this setup I can get into narrow back lanes and driveways. My dump site is always within 5 minutes away.
I carry all my climbing and rigging gear in the trucks back seat area. Truck has a Cummins diesel, air bags and 80lb rated Michelin tires and I use it on weekends to haul my 5th wheel camper and family.
In todays tough economic times I like to operate at this size, I have one good reliable employee who has been with me for 5 yrs.

That's 208 cubic feet

208 ft³ = 5.88990 m³

Can you get some close ups? How it tips out the chip etc.

I have the trailer balanced with the chipper and grinder overhang at the back. With the box empty there is only about 600 lbs of weight on the hitch. The box full of chips would be about 3000 lbs max, 1500 to the hitch 1500 to the tandem axle. 2100 total on hitch. Even with 1500 lb of blocks in the truck box the 7,000 lb.Dodge has no problem handling it ,Air bags[Firestone] really help though. Loaded right up I never take it out to highway speed on the highway because all my dump sites are within town limits or cottage area limits. As I show in my next post 4-5 years ago I pulled it with my 6 cylinder gas 1992 Ford half ton.
