Default new pickup

bought a new one ton chev 4x4 today. My old one, 3/4 hd 4x4 with 78 k miles brought $6700. How does it feel to get raped? Not good. Kept that truck in perfect condition and it doesn't pay off. Better than selling thru the paper tho.

Stuff like that is cheap over there, 78K miles aint much, I got 320K (km's) on my 4cyl ute towing stuff every day.

How much does the new ones cost there?

I got 250 k on my Toyota 4x4 pu. This truck, Chev. prob not going to get that many. I got my new one for around $30k. Very heavy duty, would tow the BC 2000 chipper around, or easily carry a Dingo, etc. on back. 360 hp v8. 10k GVW. 6 speed auto trans, 4x4.

I skipped the diesel cause cost of diesel is way over gas here.

Do you guys call all 4x4's ute's (utility vehicles)?

If it's a tray back etc then yep, it's a ute. We dont have "pick ups" except at the bar on Friday nights.

But in saying that I think there's some new USA made ute on the market being flogged as a "pickup". Aussies love their utes.

Got it. I always pictured Stevo (Steve Irwin) and his ute, that old yota. He finally got a new one from the sponsor, and even his dog looked a little happier lol.

The Holden Commodores, utes, Monaros, etc get a few cosmetic changes, a stupidly huge V8 and get shipped over as Pontiacs.

With my drive around, I like the big v8. When backing and pushing my large stump grinder or either chipper, or 12 foot dump trailer with a full load firewood delivery up a steep driveway or hill, better to be overpowered than underpowered.

I also got an old 87 yota 4x4 that will creep up a hill like a spider and actually will 4 wheel better than the brand new truck. It drags a sprayer (trailer), small stump grinder, wood splitter, dingo and trailer, and both trucks will drag the conveyor (firewood).

The toyota will go out in the yard without any damage but the big Chev will need dry hard or frozen ground or plywood to not have some rutting.

Let's see some picts of utes or pick ups. Here is my yota....I'll get a pict of new chev later.

Yesterday, its first day it had light duty hauling around tools etc. and also we hooked up its 2 front recovery hooks to the 2 front recovery hooks on my 55 foot picker with 3/4 inch double braid lanyards and then backed up in 4 wheel drive and chocked and locked the emergency.

This kept some of the worry out of setting up the bucket on an extremely steep drive with a house right below the hill to slide into it.

Let's see some of youze guy's utes. Show your chip rigs on Trev's thread.

Thanks Flash, years ago that old Toyota above was my drive around. We have been real busy the last couple of years. It is not the fancy diesel model, but they don't make em any stronger than this one.

Thats a beast!

I've always liked the idea of an american pick up, but out here they are worth an absolute fortune.

Thanks guys....I am toying with the idea of somehow having sex (with the wifey) and get the new truck interior smell involved. Shame it wears off (smell of sawdust replaces it, haha)

The one I traded in, a 2003 chev 2500 HD (this one a 3500 hd) went down midway through its traded 78k miles with a blown trans. Might have had something to do with me pulling my big chip truck (broke down) up a steep hill with a load of chips on it, but I'm not sure. Should be able to take that tho IMO. Dealer gave me half off as he is a client of mine, but it was still about $2k.

Well, no surprise, they come out with a new, heavier trans, and this is mainly why I updated it.

Chevy actually had some recalls on thier trannys and rear gears Dave, you might want to look into that,a buddy of mine is gonna have to change the rear gear in his 99 yukon denali, blew the rear gear just driving down the road,no load and he checks all his fluids, engine, tranny and rear gear weekly,so i'm sure it wasn't low on grease.

For years my run around, pickup, ute was a Volkswagon diesel Rabbit. It got 54 miles to a gallon and climbing gear and a few saws fit nicely in the hatchback. It was like driving around a covered golf cart that would go 90 mph if nec. I had a green one, a silver one and a brown one. Each one died from destroyed rear suspension from putting bull ropes and progressively heavier stuff in them. They would run forever otherwise.

I'm due for a new ute .... but winter is coming.

Very nice Dave, mine's a style side like yours but I'd rather an alloy tray back coz the bodywork of the tray does get beat up. Or tray back with canopy coz of all the bloody rain this year!

Yeah really, I would prefer an alloy body but doesn't go so well with the wife in the neighborhood. I am constantly on my gm, Logmauler to not scratch the sides taking stuff in and out and would rather not worry about it.

Thanks Lopa, It is just the work level truck. They got 3 levels, mine being the basic work truck WT. But it has all I need with no carpet, etc. It's got a nice stereo satelite radio, cd, cruise, trailer package, snow plow setup, Onstar, etc.

It is the heaviest suspension, one ton, heavier brakes, tires, etc. but I didn't want the dually rear wheels as hard to get between trees with the stumper, dump trailer, chipper, etc. And diesel is way more expensive over here.

One neat thing was it came standard without the auto windows and door locks I had in last truck. I asked if I could add them and they had a great deal on changing it over with remote start added for free. Man this morning it was 10 degrees and I don't think I will ever get tired in the real hot or cold aiming the key fob out the window and auto starting the truck while in the house. It will run for 20 minutes and if you are a no show...it shuts off.

Boring you all with this $hit. But I get a woody over this truck. It will wear off like they always do.

Anything smaller and it would be undersized with what I do with. Imagine pulling a bc2000 around or putting a 2200 lb Dingo or 2600 lb Bobcat mini on anything smaller? Vermeer 665 b stumpgrinder getting pushed backwards up a hill?

Or worse being pushed into an intersection......Very nice unit indeed.
