So those that mean a lifeline or rigging line about 1/2" should be retired after a shock load?

Hi KimTree,
Nice tool that, Simple, Two points of attachment, Looks robust...looks like ongoing thought and refinement aswell...variations are appearing now..ideas are sometimes very subtle, You just have to reconise them.
Good evening, Gary, nice to have your input I found it interesting and informative.
When I get off my backside and start to fabricate the device, At first I will use mild steel...why because it's cheap, robust and will do the job, As soon as I finnish all my tweaking off my device I will be refabricating it all using alloy steel lighter, stronger, It will be strong from what ever angle the load is applied,I want it to be able to lift a modest amount of load not enought so all you are doing is breaking your craning forks outs. soon as we get some time I will start and I will be posting as I go.

G'day Dave,
as the guys said very nice and well thought out bit of gear.
What size rope does the self tailer take up too?? and have you found you are able to "squeeze" in slightly larger rope?
Tried out a drill for raising yet like on the GRCS??
cheers

Default corded or battery powered?

Half-inch, corded drill and a small, portable generator?

Maximum rope size according to harken is 9/16 but mostly we use 5/8 it does go in the self tailer but tends to slip a little when winding in, not a problem if the groundie holds the tail,I haven't tried using a drill yet, the only issue with it is that it is very heavy but is worth its weight in gold.

Yeah Dave, I've heard (only heard) that you can squeeze in a rope size bigger than the manufacturers reccommended and it eliminated the slipping we get when using them for arb work.
Also means you dont have to buy a bigger capstan for the larger ropes, haven't seen for myself though....anyone???

Its very good at just takening the slack out.on the harken 46 i think the maximum would be 5/8 rope in xtc plus but maybe you could get a bigger double braid in,once we get to big wood that comes off and a ''portawrap''gets to have a go heres 2 more pics showing rope placement either side

Well, gdstorrick pretty much covered any of the in-depth crap about FF.... and thanks for it =) My wireless card's antennae has been a bit whack lately, so I'm havin some internet trouble, sorry if I don't post back immediately.

Impact force and Fall Factors are two different things, either in abstract terms or in working terms. But I think this topic has been adequately covered, so I'll tarry on it no longer.
