I think there's something "suss" with those little wheeled imported trucks. They buy them over there for $1000 and expect you to pay $15000, winding back speedos and shit. Stay clear of them, and they dont seem the same as the real deal here. I had a Toyota Dyna, was good but gutless. I think the pick of the bunch would be Izusu

We run 2 Mazda T4600 in our mulch buisness and find them very reliable. I was told by our Mazda mechanic to watch out for the T3500 with the 2 speed gear box though, not reliable and expensive to fix. Out of the trucks you mentioned I go with Ekka, stick with the Isuzu 300 and if you really want to go places they come in 4wd even the early models. |

my family has a fleet of over 30 tucks hey MTS247 the NPR is definetly a winner and the Hino Duttro (by toyota) as well are really good, old mitsu trucks are good the newer ones were puss, we just sold one.. but they are getting better again, small things but they all made a difference... dont think you can go past a NPR we had one for 12 months i drove it everyday except for sunday and sold it due to it was too small for what we wanted. great truck,

Hi MTS247, I don't know if you have bought your truck yet, but for moving heavy stuff about (like articulated loaders!) we think the Hino is pretty hard to beat. We've had a 6 tonner for 5 years now (which I think is a fair haul, everyone is excited after a couple of months ), it had one small issue at the start with airbrakes but after that all good. In the end our choice was between Iszu and Hino and Hino seemed stonger, more grunt, and better air brake system. I've driven it with a full load and trailer Perth to Brisbane a couple of times and the semi's have a good laugh. It has heaps more grunt than the Mitsu, but you paid a lot more for it as well. One of our dealers has a new Mitsu and I would have to agree with Cole, it just seems tinny - you drive a good sized front end loader up the tray it rocks about and has nowhere near the hp for comfortable country driving/overtaking. We borrowed an older Canter early on and they are so slow, great if you don't want to go over 80km/hr. I looked into an import someone was selling and "officially" no parts were available on the engine if anything went wrong, so most likely it would be out of action for some time and I think with that sort of investment its too much risk. ![]() ![]() cheers, Cam

Just on the subject of Hino. Stay completely away from the Hino 500 series (for now). Not only is the steering lock absolutely deplorable, their have been two crashes in the last few weeks which have (allegedly) been attributable to the steering actually locking. The first happened to a friend of mine who was travelling at 100 kmph when the steering locked and steered him across the road and into the bush. How he walked away is beyond belief. The second instance was (allegedly) identical only travelling at a slower speed and happened very recently. The kilometers clocked up on the trucks were approximately 45000km and 8000km respectively. I'll keep you all informed as the situation unravels. |
