How about a pic?

Cant really go wrong with a Bandit, sharp knives and grease bearings, no chipping steel!

Learn what the bed knife is and it's maintaince.
Keep sharp knives.
Lube daily the disc and feed roller bearings.
Keep clean air filters on hand.
Oil changes of course.
Make sure hydraulic oil is in good shape. It draws moisture and gets milky looking when bad.
Make sure no foreign objects get into the chipper.

Make sure it is firmly attached to your truck!

NEVER OPEN THE DISC COVER WHILE THE DISC IS TURNING!

NEVER REACH INTO THE INPUT CHUTE. PUSH THINGS THROUGH WITH OTHER LIMBS.

Bed knife/ anvil clearance and condition is critical. Sharp knives wont help much if anvil is rounded. Too much clearance will produce stringy mulch and increase chance of clogging output chute. These machines are great with 80hp Perkins and lift and crush fitted. 46 and 60 hp are a bit under gunned.Dull knives will increase vibration and cause cracking of frame etc. every service, check tapered pins from drive motors to feed rollers are secure.

A 90 Deutz is a good powerplant. Follow the advice from above, you should be very pleased.

Ha, we did a little prune job on a red gum for Deutz Australia today at their Main office. Clearing back from the Deutz flagpole!

Hey

As a matter of interest, how many hours on that machine and what did you pay for it in USA?

Aussies, when we know that tell me what you think it would sell for here?

The hours are a big question it does not have a hour meter because it is not the original motor . the machine is a 1994 model not sure on the year of the motor I paid $3900us dollars for it . It is about only thing I could find that size in my price range .

Nice buy. Here you probably would have paid at least half of what a new machine would go for. I looked for a used machine, but the only one I could find was only 4k less than a new one!

That's because they are designed to make your work easier and earn you greater income. You buy a chipper because it is more an investment than a tool. The way you do your cleanups will never be the same.

You'll be able to pay for your machine in the frame of a month, so unless the thing crashes and burns, you found yourself a deal. I'm really happy for you.

The way a machine gerts run 'hard' is running it with filthy oil, running it with dull knives, overworking the thing with too big or too many limbs at once, having the anvil not set right, what else? bad hydraulic fluid.

All those things can be avoided. Your 'new' engine should run all day, for years, and a 90 HP, I'd have to say, that's pretty phat. Almost overpowered, if there could be such a thing.

If that deal would have come across my plate, I'd have had to buy it without really needing it.

Here's where to get your knives. They come to our treecare shows. They sell a high quality chipper knife, and resharpen your old ones. I imagine they'll run you about $25 per knife. Do you have an air impact wrench and a compressor?

You got a bargain alright.

TM is spot on the money, clean oil and warm an engine up, cool it down, it'll last a very long time.

For what a gallon or two of oil costs it always amazes me how people dont change it often enough.

I have a small 2600cc 4 cylinder 4wd that's done 300,000kms and still not using oil or smoking. I bought it with 100K on the clock and it tows around almost 2 tonnes of crap everyday. Good habits bring good results.

New 9" Bandit about $50k in Aust, good used machines around $20k. Check out www.maynepublishing.com.au, click Arbor Age then classifieds to see what's on offer here.
It's very important to change hyd oil and filter regularly as it is hydroscopic and absorbs water that can cause corrosion internally. Also regular oil changes to Deutz motor just as important.
The owners manual for your machine will help a lot with maintenance advice.
