68cc, don't know the HP. 20" max over here, but a lot of our timber is very hard. 4275.00 seems like a gift! |

272 is a good saw. It is starting to get iffy about parts though, but It is a decent saw. 24" in dry oak is no problem with shapr chains.. |

| I finished a job for a customer and he asked me if I was interested in seeing his new Husqvarna passed down from his deceased brother inlaw 16 years ago. I was expecting to see a little consumer saw but was shocked to see an old style 272XP in show room condition. He explained that the saw never cut a stick of wood, he only ran it for a few minutes every year for the last 16 years so it wouldn't seize up. He even showed me the original bill of sale dated Jan.7, 1994. This saw is 72cc and was replaced by the 371 around 1996. He says its for sale but I haven't decided whether to buy it or not. Here are a few photos. Willard. |

Holmen Tree Well, depends what he wants for it, and if you can still get parts. BUt in that condition -- if the piston & cylinder are still ok, I would be mighty tempted, especially if being sold for under $200. Last edited by treeshaveneeds; 18th August 2010 at 05:02 AM. Reason: clarity |

I heard it run and it ran .....like a new saw hahaha. He always kept it up on a high shelf in his insulated garage and the fellow is a retired mechanic. So it was well taken care of . He idled it dry of fresh mixed fuel every year to keep it well lubed. Plus enough revs were used to keep the oil pump pumping. He figured its worth a couple hundred bucks. Seeing I'm not out to make a quick buck on a good customer by reselling the saw and already have enough new saws I told him its worth $500 , take no less then $400 for it. These 272XP 's were used heavily in the PNW limbing old growth softwood. With its outboard clutch making the balance and ergonomics perfect for limbing big fir and cedar limbs. Of course a 28"-30" b/c had to be used for limbing while walking on the fallen stems. Willard. |

Btw, they still are made in Brazil, but it is a "detuned" version, judged by the specs (3.6kW vs. the original 3.8).

Well I have to bump this thread again. Yesterday I bought the 1993 Husqvarna 272XP that has never cut a stick of wood that I showed earlier. I paid $300 CDN for it. It is old school compared to my 2008 372XP, but it is one well built saw with non rev limit ignition , no silly restrictor caps on the carbs adjustment screws. More compact then the 372 as it is 1 1/2" inchs shorter, 3/4" narrower and 1/2" lower in height. With its outboard clutch like the 346XP has this 272 would make an excellent handling saw for heavy pulpwood cutting..... felling, limbing and topping. It just looks so nice and clean, I still haven't cut a stick of wood with it yet |

my first post here. The 272 is hardcore. My favorite saw and very capable! Small wood all the way up to the nasty. Not that heavy and easy to handle. I use to have 2 nice ones, one with big dogs and a 16", what a nasty little saw..lol the other pulled a 24". I sold both and been kicking myself since.. until yesterday, picked up a nice clean one with big dogs and a full wrap. Can't wait to put my hands on her. My brand new Stihl 361 is a pita to fire up.. the ole' 272's 2 pulls and we are rockin and rollin! The 361 will now be a dust collector.

Welcome to Tree World Matt ![]() I have to admit that I have not put this 272XP in wood yet. Still looking for some spare time and a bright sunny day to take some good photos of it before it gets scratched up and dirty. The carb still has the original rich factory settings from almost 20 years ago. The previous owner idled it for a few minutes every year with fresh mix, so seals etc are in prime shape. With this saw's outboard clutch and well balanced bar/ chain position design I think of it as a oversized 346XP. With it's 16" b/c this 272XP will put my 346XP- 16" on the shelf to collect dust forever. |

Well it took almost 20 years for this Husqvarna 272XP to cut its first piece of wood. The piece of wood is sitting on its top handle. ![]() Today it took down a birch tree in a customers back yard, felled between a wood shed and the house. I said earlier I may retire my 346XP, well now after using this 272XP I may have to retire the 372XP also. Last edited by Willard Holmen; 5th November 2011 at 04:10 AM. Reason: extra info |

Well I was looking at some IPLs of the new Husqvarna 560 XP/ 562XP today and discovered they have outboard clutchs. ![]() Just goes to prove the advantages of the outboard clutch design on a saw that is making excitement in its design / technology all around the world. |
