Default Footlocking Boots

I am looking for some good, sturdy work boots that will also work well for footlocking. I don't want something with a high heel like red wings or anything like that, but I want something higher quality than Wal-Mart brand. Any input would be awesome.

IMO the key is a boot with a flat sole and no heel. I've attempted to footlock using a large heeled work boot and found it to be highly frustrating since the gasp between the heel and the shank made a perfect slot for the rope to slip through.

That is the exactly the problem I am thinking about. I have some cheap boots now, but they are wearing out quick, and I would like a more long lasting solution.

I wear a pair of Merrell Phaser Peaks and think they're great. A little expensive, but they hold up well. I've had mine for almost a year and they just started breaking down. I went to a local shoe store that carries Merrells and they sewed them back up and shoe goo-ed them for me for a good price. Good as new.

Do you have any specific brands that you would recommend?

Being new to a lot of this, and I have never heard of this term before now, but what is foot locking? I know it is a climbing term. Thanks. Bruce.

I really like these:

No defined heel and sticky tread.

Good for footlock, sport/rec climbing, light pruning work but no steel toe cap - they are a hiking boot rather than a safety boot, so really not a serious work boot.

Very light, comfier than most sneakers. I wear them everyday. $250 a pop.

Hey steve how are ya,

Yea it was good fun alright, nice to hang out with all my mates there.

Na bro i was 2nd 1:48, Rony 1:45 beat me, cone picking for 2 months (single line) dont help the footlocking much haha.

Ahh i have left Germany already, back in Sweden for a bit before going back to NZ for a bit.

Take it easy bro, hope to catch ya again!

Ha na i hadent footlocked for 2 months so i had to stop twice, i was buggered haha, it was more a mental thing rather than physically being able to do it i think. Rony was consistent and did it with out stopping, thats why he won.

Looking forward to NZ cheers steve.

Sorry for messing the thread up!

The best footlocking hikers I have come across are Evolve "maximus" and the run around 70 to 100 bucks depending on your size and where you get them if they are still available!!!! They are good enough for the footlock record holder Mark Chisholm and they will stand up to the daily grind as well! The key to any footlocking boot is that the sole configuration has tread in the middle part of the sole to grip the bite of rope.
