If theyre on a chipper i think mounting them on a rubber block might help too. The vibration shakes them up stuffing the globes & fittings. |

Amen brother. Stopped bothering with the chipper and have stuck with the magnetic cab mount for truck and ute. Easier to have 6 extra traffic cones and make my drag space behind the chipper feed twice as long. Have also bought a couple of new "men at work" signs for placing at distance....Gotta put my rates up again!

The new high intensity LED lights (as used on heavy vehicles as indicator lights) might be a solution. The big problem is brightness. I think the LED's would be fine but not as bright as, say, a 50W halogen globe in a Hella rotating reflector style lamp. The LED's have no moving or fragile internal parts and if they are mounted on an encapsulated circuit board they should last for years. About the only thing you would need is a fuse, a solid-state flasher can and a length of conecting cable. If you had 3 lamps you could position them so that they were visible from the front, road side and rear. This advice is freely given. I somehow doubt that the LED lamp assemblies will be anyway near as cheap as my advice! ![]() Dennis. |

| Hilly is right, they are expensive - but that said, since we have been installing LED beacons, we have not had a failure. They are standard spec on all Red Roo chippers. We started with the single LED (2004 Series) and now use the Quantum Series. The units won't blind you when next to them but are easily visible at a distance. I did see some small, battery powered LED warning lights advertised in one of the electronics magazines, probably from Jaycar Electronics, that were designed to be placed on the roadway, facing towards the oncoming traffic, for safety markers if a car breaks-down at night. These little gadgets could be fitted to the top of those plastic "Witch's Hats" to give improved visibility at dusk. Just a thought. Dennis. |

I am using the strobe type. They last well. However, there is some controversy as to their compliance for highway use.

This bloke was always able to help me build it or find what needed when was running about 5 lifts n 3 trucks n chippers the friggen flashin lights was a daily chore. Welcome We'd keep a magnetic plug in flasher just for the chippas only plug em in when needed for OH& S audit pull it off after as they never last a week. Is that the type you are looking for? Other beacons are under the 'Emergency' menu. Found that site while looking for a work light/reverse light for my car. Last edited by Eric Frei; 21st March 2011 at 08:21 AM. Reason: changed link

| We have something similar on our tower. Under the cover its just a tower of LEDs which flash on/off imitating the rotation. These were also quite expensive. They do make a difference over the old bulbs though.

Versa lift would mount em upside down over ya cab so they'd fill up with rain water n die all the time. Do they still do that....?
