Australian Standard AS2550.10-2006 AS2550.10 What it means to you Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP’s), by the very nature of the product are a potentially high risk product to own. All MEWP’s operating in Australia must be maintained in accordance with Australian Standard AS2550.10. The standard includes all inspection intervals which include: •Pre Operational Inspections •Routine Inspections (90 day Interval) •Annual Inspections (12 monthly Interval) •Enhanced Periodic Inspections •Major Inspections All machines (MEWP’s) and working environments can vary, therefore all maintenance and inspections should be carried out at a frequency to enable the equipment (MEWP’s) to be kept in a safe and satisfactory condition. Routine Inspections Shall be carried out at no longer than 90 day Intervals Annual Inspections Shall be carried out at no longer than 12 monthly Intervals Enhanced Periodic Inspection Once a MEWP has reached 5 years of service, periodic inspections shall be structured in a way that all critical components are inspected and tested within a 5 year period and completed by the 10th year. Major Inspection Shall be applied to all MEWP’s that have not had an Enhanced Periodic Inspection applied and has: •Reached 10 years of age •Been Imported or needs re-commissioning, and does not have previous continuous working records and maintenance history •Had a 10 year Major Inspection completed and experienced 5 years of subsequent use As mentioned previously all MEWP’s can vary in design and may require additional checks and tests to ensure the MEWP is maintained correctly and in accordance with AS2550.10. Please seek clarification to confirm if your MEWP requires any additional checks or relevant work. MEWP maintenance records are crucial in determining the correct maintenance schedule for your machine. If these records are not kept up to date unnecessary repairs and maintenance can be carried which can increase running costs and downtime of your equipment. The minimum requirements for record keeping are as follows •Statement of last major inspection, periodic inspection and routine inspection •The daily pre-operational checks for the last 14 days, or since the last routine inspection •Action taken or repairs carried out to rectify malfunctioning or damaged components Any System that records these events and is readily available to the operator and relevant personal should be accepted as meeting these criteria. Does that specifically refer to the MEWPs used on construction sites which are drivable or does it also include truck/trailer mounted EWPs?
