Default Back, jackals, back!

Ok. True, to tell a good story, it's gotta have a good end.

Security dude is amenable to taking a few shots. I was actually telling him about you guys as a way of making what I was doing seem remotely sane. I told him that there were 41 documented climbers worldwide that gives a bean's hoot about this mechanical descender and that if you would shoot a picture Now.....

that I'll be sharing it with treeworld.info later.

Security dude, down here....

This is how I intend to use this frame hook as an SRT descent device.
First, make a bight in the rope......

Friction control and standing end;

Note the hook, or horn, or cleat, or whatever it may be called. This is where you add friction. The draping over of the rope, and the rope's weight allow you hands-free, with a light creep (at my weight and 11 mm line), but it is not locked off.

below is a solid soft-lock, without actually being locked off.
To be locked off, the rope needs to be held captive, meaning whether you're upside down, rightside up, hands on or off the rope, you stay stationary on the rope.

Soft lock, you are stationary, but by pulling up the standing end (pushing the rope into the device) you can adjust yourself down.
Hard lock, you are stationary, no adjustment, you are locked into that altitude.

Please don't. This device will do SRT and 2:1 doubled rope technique, but not 1:1 doubled, so it it is limited in what it can do for you.

It does SRT remarkable well, but without an intrinsic, captive lockoff you can only feel so secure. I think we need a piece that requires less babysitting.

This was not an attempt at making our 'go all three techniques' device. The three-tech will be nearly as simple, nearly as small and hopefully lighter.

This frame hook just sort of threw itself in front of us. We may steal the hook/cleat configuration, and pair it with a freino-style spring gate for use in our upcoming tri-descender.

No, no. State fairgrounds.

See, I had been looking for about a month to buy another truck, and hire a fellow Arborist for the Winter tree work.

It was a truck jamboree. I was just thinking, "what a better place to look for a truck than a truck jamboree.

I had never been to one, nor had any intent, BUT instead of just flying past the place, I decided to just go in and take a look around. The security dudes and the frame hook device really sort of forced their way into the story.

My hunch was right.
