Default carlton chippers

Has any one had much to do with carlton chippers and how do they perform against bandit chippers.

We're looking into them at the moment. The're sold by Red Roo in Sydney. Specs look good, similar to Bandit as you say.
I expect them to be ok, their grinders are bullet proof.

I have been told that Red Roo are now selling Carlton, as well as Woodsman, and that they bought the Stumpmaster machine brand from Tony Palmer, Agtrac Aust. Don't know for sure though.

Agtrac Aust (Tony) developed two stump grinders as far as i know. A stump humper clone and another. Red roo have taken over the manufacture of these i think. There was also something about this in an arbor age not too long ago. Red Roo already have a couple of their own type grinders, and with the Carlton they must have the largest range going? I have one of their basic models 16hp bought years and years ago. Haven't been able to kill it and geez it has worked for me. Simple yet tough.

Hey I am new with this site but I did have a brand new Carlton 12" chipper, all I can say they are not even close to that of a bandit. I used it for the very first time chipping up some apple trees and let me tell you the auto feed was all messed up so I had to reset that, it kept blowing fuses, and best of all the fan which cools the coolant on the John Deere engine stopped working so I had to strap my echo backpack to it and blow through the ratiator. What a piece of garbage......

Paramount-Welcome aboard.
Our 14" bandit had to be reset when we first had it new. it seems that they must set the auto-feed lower for softer timber,l for hardwood chipping it must be set higher. How long did you have the carlton chipper for? How did you go with the after-sales service about these problems? It seems that no matter what you buy these days, there always seems to be teething problems with them. The back-up service is really what counts these days.

Hi all,

Just found this forum and thought I might be able to answer some questions.

Red Roo spent over a year working with JP Carlton to secure the distributorship for Australia and the equipment is spec built for them. Red Roo is the only Carlton distributor worldwide to have been granted the rights to market Carlton equipment under a private label.

The 1260 6" is available now in Australia with either a 35hp Vanguard or 33hp Kubota turbo diesel.

The 1790 9" units are due in a couple weeks and have either an 88hp or 99hp Kubota turbo diesel.

The 2012 12" units are available now are equipped with a John Deere 140hp 4.5l turbo diesel. Winch standard.

Carlton began manufacturing chippers in response to Bandit building grinders. JP Carlton sold a lot of Bandit chippers (they were a Bandit dealer) and it is no secret they used the Bandit units as templates - same as Bandit used the Carlton grinders as a template.

The 18" Carlton disc unit is not imported into Australia and Red Roo has no plans to do so.

In the interest of full disclosure, I work for Red Roo.

Cheers!

Red Roo bought the rights to Tony Palmer's AgTrak Stump Master SM2 in May of 2007. This was after an extensive period of working with Tony and marketing the unit with him. The SM2 had a series of improvements made and was renamed the SHP400. Series 2 has just been released.

The SG350 was in fact developed from the basic Dosko design, however a number of changes / improvements have been made to this unit. The most noticeable difference is the strengthened frame/chassis - one piece laser cut and cnc folded.

Glad you said you work for Redroo, I nearly missed that.

The SPH400 is a really good machine. I've known Tony for a long time & was sorry to see him retire, but everyone has to sometime.

If I was buying a new machine now, for my type of work, that would be the one.
