Post buying used chipper

Does anyone have opinion on advertised Telcor 12" shredder. It is ex a Shire council and has only worked 650 hours. It is powered by a Perkins 104HP turbo diesel engine... any suggestion for buying used chipper? thanks

Question Re: buying used chipper

hi yes i have attempted to upload the 2 pics and it says they are attached...this is the first time i've posted!
I have heaps of trees and big branches left from hurricane in April, so worry is chipping so much old wood as well as lots of palm fronds. Can one machine do both?

Question Re: buying used chipper

I was unable to find anything about Telcor online, are they made by some other company? i've never seen one so who sells spare parts and blades for the Telcor?
how would this machine compare to the Vemeer BC1000?

They look homemade, the only decent thing on there looks to be the massive jockey wheel/stabiliser. Got any pictures under the covers? Also I would be comparing it to an Austchip/Chipstar 12".

Telcor made decent products,Some had there cutting discs at 90degrees to the infeed and not so good.

The one pictured i would say has the disc at 45degree there not a bad machine.I have seen a guy get his arm caught in the infeed he managed to reverse it painfully out as it has no lifting mechanism.

Seen the machine advertised $15k is twice what its worth IMO can do better.

for sale in Au, i'll be shipping to the islands...i've never had to chip such big dried trees before so am not sure what machine to look for. Leftovers from hurricane require an upgrade. I used Hansa for ease of moving around and an OLD no-name for all the fronds, now i need a machine to do both...
"Telcor made decent products"
has telcor gone out of business?

Having not seen anything new from Telcor I would say so. Also if you really want to compare it to a Vermeer BC1000 then I would probably say the Vermeer is lighter, smaller, 12" capacity, the engine has less HP but probably pumping out more power having newer tech, only has 1 infeed roller so can get bogged down on large fluffy branches like Melaleucas and Eucalyptus', also struggles taking firewood length blocks.

@ a_lopa, right with the price there. Theres some nicer looking ones floating around for far less.

thanks for your input. Engine is only an 80HP Perkins on a 2004 BC1000, 1500 hrs...

80HP 6 year old drum vs 104HP 20+ year old disc. Probably find that 104HP is somewhere lower down the charts.

Lolwut. A place in QLD has 2 BC2000s, one an XL, both have cranes on them. The only time I have seen a crane on a chipper off the net was a few weeks back, some guy had an old bandit 20" disc with a crane and he was dragging brush. Had a brand new truck though.

Back on topic, is there anything selling locally to avoid importation costs?

no, nothing local available. Vermeer has easy access to order parts. Luv pink, but 2000 is too big for island factor
Does anyone have experience with GreenMech, there's an Arborist 19x28 on Trade Me NZ, a bit smaller...

Kaibu, the queensland guys will correct me if wrong but disc chippers are no good for palms (the fronds just don't feed through).

I've put fronds through and 1800XL and old Austchip 9" and I didn't notice much of a difference. The fronds basically go through whole. The 9" did get jammed up though when you put it 3+ fronds.

yes your wrong! however there is a technique to it fold the frond in half put folded end into the feeder first i have put thousands in this way and the only time it was a problem was when the anvil wasnt set correctly.

The blades need to be very sharp when chipping palms, or they shred and fluff up.
As Galbee said, adjust anvil to the closest tolerance, usually the thickness of a hacksaw blade (1/32")

Question Re: buying used chipper

ok, after i've read the drum/disc discussion and also the palm frond thread...it seems if i let the palms dry the Vemeer 1000xl will not bog down? is this the correct conclusion??

I would think a BC 1000 would do the job for you.
It may be an idea to demo one on palm before you buy.

How do the fronds come out the other end looking like? The few times I've chipped fronds they all look like foot long pieces of ripped grass.

That's about it. they don't make good mulch, but it's easier than stacking them by hand.

One chipper i have owned a "rivett rippa chippa" was good with palm frongs i think due to it having 3 sets of knives on the disc, unfortunantly it wasn't much good on anything else.just a chipper.

I demo'd one of those years ago.
It was good on brush but didn't like wood.

Just discovered the BC1000 is 2500kg and the only place you can get new tires for it without modifying the chipper or spending boat loads of money is by getting them through Vermeer. If you are importing then shop around @ other chippers that have been mentioned.

Unhappy Re: buying used chipper

yes the weight issue is a problem and kept me from the Vermeers when i was first looking... there are so many available used it seemed the way to go. So
what weighs in less for the same performance, size engine and size? then i watched a vermeer chew up giant stringy agave blades and spit them out and that was probably worse than palm leaves
