buying a chipper

Default buying a chipper

theres a 1980 lindig chipper with a 351 on it and it has been completely gone through worth. They want 4500 bucks for it. Ive never owned one and I only do this part time.

Its a barrel chipper i dont know if that is good or not I dont know how to do pictures.

I think you mean "drum" chipper. I have used a Lindig many years ago. You need somebody to go over it to check the rotor bearings and see if the knife bolts and, if I remember, the adjusters on the back of the knives are not seized. The engine is sufficient if it has good compression. Is it a 12 inch throat or a 16 inch throat? The big one is preferable for flywheel effect.

If all checks out good it will be a good unit for a part timer like you. Try to get a manual out of the seller. How much do they want $ for it. Prob worth around $3k in top shape.

My boss had 3 of those types, he calls them 'chuck and duck' chippers.
