Default Belt tension on stump grinders

Hi All,

I have a really old Rayco stump grinder which was given to me in less than operational condition. Its the length of the Rayco RG13 series II but an ealier model (Rayco in Melbourne didnt have a part number for it??)

I have been slowly getting it going again but am not sure on how tight the belt should be. has anyone some tips or tricks for belt tensioning?? Thanks

At least you have adjustment, the geniuses that designed the Kanga grinder missed that part.

Loose belts slip, over tight ones snap .... loose belts can be tensioned, snapped ones need replacement.

Based on the above I would suggest you make them relatively snug but not over tight, if they slip then tension a little more.

And a bit of BeltGrip spray can help reduce slip too.

If you hear slipping under load, stop adjust & spray. You'll quickly glaze & wear them otherwise.

The tension mark [adjustment] should be on the inner belt guard.

Thanks JayD, The mark was not on mine but a mate with the grinder still had the tensioning marks. Seems tighter than i thought. Ill be giving it a workout as soon as this rain stops.

Out of interest what are you guys using for greasing bearings. Im using marine grade bearing grease from super crap
