Default Backing up decenders?

Now, we back up our ascenders in case of failure, but what about the "GRIGRI" or "ID" when being used as an "ascender" in a climbing system?

Default Re: Backing up decenders?

The ID and similar other decenders dont need backing up as they react like a prussic, in that when you let go of everything they stop you from falling. Also the Eddy and ID etc have a panic lock off function so if you were to pull too hard on the decent handle if locks thus stopping you falling. At the end of the day these tools are meant for work positioning not solely decent.

For sure figure 8s/munter hitch must be backed up because if you let go or and unable to hold the rope you hit the ground for sure.
