Default Asplundh whisper blade replacement

Can anyone give me details on removal/replacement/adjustment of 70's whisper chipper blades? One of my guys threw a ratchet strap thru it during cleanup and yes he is still employed!! LOL I am guessing you remove the three allen head screws to get them out. Install and adjustment is my real concern. Thanks for any help.

Loosen the socket head bolts, the re install one of the bolts into the threaded hole in the retaining wedge. Screw it in fairly tight, then hit the other end of the wedge with a brass drift. This should dislodge the wedge, which you then lift out and then lift out the blade.
below each blade, you will find 2 set screws. You adust these to set the height of each blade.
Re- sharpen or replace the blades as necessary. All blades should be of equal width to ensure correct balance.
Set clearance from blade to anvil (or bed knife) to a hacksaw blade thickness, 1/32". Correct clearance of each blade is critical.

Before re-assembly, clean all surfaces and run a tap through all threads to clear out old sap etc.
Take your time and get it right, these machines are more finicky than a disc chipper.

If I am not mistaken you also need to turn the Cutter Bar. It is the part you measure your clearance to. Usualy you can use all four edges .

this message is for George Cassidy, the 70's asplundh chipper you have is obsolete. Plus, there could be more damage to the machine then what you can visillby see. I did not recommend that you continue using this machine. There could be injury or death if used. Please contact me 1-800-264-4564 Thank you.
