Arbor Harpoon test video #1: - 1/3 powder load, using only tissue for wadding. Very low pressure. - Results : inadequate boost velocity. "works", just not well. ![]() Arbor Harpoon test video #2: - half powder load (5 grains), re-using plastic wad = moderate pressure. - Results : sufficient boost velocity for small to medium applications ![]() Steel building in test video is to give scale, and to prevent tangling and aiming problems for test purposes. (note: field use has been attained, although circumstances and load parameters were unmeasured, and varried accordingly. Actual line placement at 75 foot has been achieved) Last edited by Eric Frei; 7th June 2010 at 10:59 AM. | LOL, you're onto something there but lets have some pics of the actual harpoon and perhaps we can make it fly better further etc. And to think some-one called me a redneck!

Ekka, the specifics can be found here: 12 guage Line Launcher The distance has to do with powder load and pressure developed. I'm toying with the idea of using a full load, and just pouring the shot out without messing with the internal wads... hmmmm we'll see =) Definitely a helmet, goggles, brick wall, etc, for that one! lol It'd make it sooo much easier though... no more messing around modifying loads. |

You're a warrior, Therrin! This is just one of those Arborist things that someone, sooner or later was going to do. It needed to be done. I'm glad you're the guy doing it. Thanks for sharing with us, I'm having a blast! Uh, wait, YOU'RE having a blast. (And please don't blow your face off). Can't wait for the full-load mode! |

Funny you should respond on this thread. I actually used the Arbor Harpoon 2 days ago on a job. It was in a neighborhood and though I got a couple strange looks from the druggies across the street, noone called the cops. It allows for easy access. That job I used it at about 55', so it wasnt very high, but once you get the hang of it, it allows a VERy accurate shot through a specific place in the tree. |

Well if the place you're working has no objection to firing a projectile you could rig up one of these. They can use three different size loads and can fire up to 100 yards. My buddy wanted to use one in our town to train his dog and the police said they would arrest him for firing it. Sounds like a gun shot when fired. |
