For anyone who uses a foot-loop in their climbing/working system (RADS, Rope Walker, etc., etc.), this is an idea that may be of some interest. I can't believe this is a new idea but it's new to me and would appreciate some opinions. ![]() After messing with various types of foot-loops and various ways of keeping them in place, I thought I'd try making a foot-loop using an adjustable eye similar to the whoopie-sling concept. So far, it seems to be working pretty good. Below is a link to a very short video showing this foot-loop concept: Whoopie Foot-loop {video} ![]() I hope using the term "Whoopie" doesn't give the wrong idea about how this foot-loop is used. While a Whoopie Sling is intended to change length, the Whoopie Foot-loop length is fixed and does NOT change. However, I did use the same adjustable eye principle on the loop so it could be loosened to go over the boot then grip tightly - easy on, easy off. A snug fit on the boot is the point and stays put without slipping during loading and unloading. The total length and the fitted loop are both effectively fixed and sized for my style. Link to some photos with more detail This is probably the easiest splice of all to make.

Hi there, after seeing your idea, i instantly started to splice it for my gear. Used it yesterday in some big old oaks here in Baden- Baden/ Germany, and loved that it didn't move from my feet, even with having alot of Hedera helix (Evergreen?) on the way up to the anchor point. Thanx alot for suollieng this great idea!! Greets from the sunny Germany Benedikt |

After posting the Whoopie Foot-loop concept video some time ago, it occurred to me that I could further simplify the foot-loop. I eliminated the 'back-splice' tail and simply buried the tail. The splice was lock-stitched, double-whipped and frapped at the beginning of the taper instead of the throat of the splice. This allowed the foot-loop to be opened and closed by simply collapsing the splice as can be seen in the following video link: Spliced Foot-loop

I use this foot loop from Tenex 9mm about 1 year: it is lightweight, functional, cheap, easy splice. And yellow! Recommend! |
