Default What affect does heat have on ropes/prussiks

GDay All,

I was wondering if anyone has any comments about the affect of heat on climbing ropes/prussiks/rigging rope when they are stored. Given the last couple of days temps have been around 41-43 DegC and my ute has been in the sun with the equipment stored in aluminium tool boxes which are getting too hot to touch. I would be guessing what temperature it is in the tool boxes but i think maybe 50DegC at least. Im curious if this will weaken the ropes or is three or four days of this heat not going to have any real affect

Thanks Guys

Melting point of modern ropes is over 200C so they'll be OK.

What about direct sunlight, I was told with time the UV light will weaken most climbing lines, any thoughts ?

UV definitely has an ageing effect over time so store anything fabric(ropes, harness, tapes etc etc) out of sunlight. I'm pretty sure that long term storage at higher temperatures also causes premature ageing. All the manufacturers storage advice I've seen says to keep out of sunlight and away from extremes of heat. I guess short periods in a truck wont do any significant damage but if your gear is stored hot all the time id store it somewhere else.
