Well as it was a beautiful Sunday here in Sydney I decided to get around and wash my ropes. A week of rain has left them filthy as.My routine is large tub of water, some natural soap flakes and some fabric softener. Stir and mix, then rinse a couple of times in clean tubs of water. Hang in shade to dry. I used large clear tubs from supercheap auto (which also make great eskies) and its good to see the amount of dirt that comes off them. Even the clean ones.Be nice n fluffy to climb on again. Anyone got any other secret cleaning routines??? Cheers |

Chuck it in the wifes front loader, comes out looking like new. Also, you want to clean a chainsaw parts real good? Chuck them in the dishwasher.

I spilled bar oil all over my climbing rope. If I wash it a few times will it be safe for use, or did I just ruin this rope.

Welcome to treeworld and I guess if you get all then oil out it won't hurt your rope.

Southern touch, I wash my ropes in a clean tub. I have put a Small bit of degreaser in with the wash to get oil off a lowering line. With the clear tub you can see the oil come to the top. Now keeping your rope submerged, tip out the top half of water (oil floats to the top of water). Then IMMEDIATELY rewash your rope with natural soap a couple of times. Even contact the manufacturer of the rope to make sure it doesn't effect performance. Good Luck. |

Washing rope in a washing machine works perfect! I put it in a pillowcase just be sure that it doesn't get stuck anywhere. Hanging them out right now overhere is not advised though, temperature is too far below zero.

| Cold? Sex with a polarbear that's cold! Just been busy, have been ill 2006 for three months, money just runs out at that time. Insurance only kicks in after 92 days. Ordinary insurance is pretty low, that one kicks in after two weeks. We can get snow from oktober to april. Most of the time though we have snow of and on. Last year I couldn't get out until the snowplow came. Added some pictures, one of an oak that needed to be pruned of the house and some forestwork. Pure soap flakes do not hurt or damage modern ropes, but generally my climbing lines only need a clean water rinse, every three or four months they'll need a proper wash or after working on figs, pines, or really badly declining gums (much kino!!!) You usually find pure soap flakes in the section of washing products for delicate/pure wool garments |

Are they mules or horses? (not trolling, I'm actually interested.) I managed an 18 horse ranch for 2 years. Thats a nice oak in the one picture though, I'd love havin it next to my house. I've put ropes in the laundry machine before, but for basic cleaning and such I use one of these. It's actually what the fire stations around here use also. |

Current water restrictions prohibit the use of such device in Brisbane ... unless it's connected to a rain water tank.

After working on Pines in centenial pk I had to hang up my green 30m climbing line as it cured out like cement. Last weekend at mount wilson climbing 45m Cypresses that had moss all over them in the rain my new orange climbing line turned black. 1 hour delicate wash in my mums front loader, both of them like brand spanking new again ![]() Nothing quite like climbing on a fluffy rope.

I use a mesh bag. Take it to the local landromat and abuse their machines. Ya get a lot of strange looks when you plunk that sack in the machines.
