Hi, can anyone tell me and show if possible how to tie a VT. What are the pros and cons? I have been using a prussik and distel but it seems lots of people rate the VT especially with the DMM hitch climber which I have just got. I am using Ocean Polyester with stiched terminations.

Hey mate, check this link out. Valdotain Tresse problems To be honest, if you dont know how to tie the VT you shouldn't be climbing on it. You really need someone experienced with the prussic to physically show you and explain how it works and why. You can get seriously hurt with a little mistake, the VT takes time to get used to its not like any other prussic. Cheers James

Like jim said... Go low and slow on the VT... It's one hell of a knot, but a small mistake can get you hurt... Ever climbed on a self trailing knot before? | |

I use the vt on some of my pruning its a great knot but definatly fussy. You really should stay low until you get the hang of it.

If i were you i would give a modified prussic a go, its tied 3 or 4 wraps above and 1 below. Then get a dog clip and attach your pulley via the clip below the prussic. Ill get a photo for ya if your interested. Its much easier to handle and works excellent plus you can use it like a blakes (with the hip thrust motion) if you want.

Modified Prussic/Swabish I use an extra wrap when climbing on my rope guide due to the minimal friction. Try and experiment to your liking. Remember low and slow! After a long ascent the prussic may have to be set with a hand! Feed back once you have had a go.
