there are splicing instructions on yale's website for that. I've made splices before, but I'm not very good at it. The only thing I splice is rigging line and cobra bracing...but it takes long and like I said, I'm not very good at it.

jim you wanna use samsons instructions for that, there the ones ive been using it is quite easy to perform. soak the rope in washing powder for a day to get ride of all the muck and sap otherwise youve got oe hope of splcing it up. the finl taper is done by marking back where they exit between c and d and pulling on both the core and cover to expose more length cut where you marked them and then starting at where you just cut them make a cut every inch for 5 inches so you finish with 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 where you cut at the exit point. Good luck

jtrouse, why use Samson instructions out of interest? Its a Yale rope... 16 strand yale ropes seem easier to splice than samson, not that has anything to do with this ha. col2y, if you dont already know how to splice do NOT start with a used rope, new rope is far far easier.

well the yale instructions dont turn up as neat as the samsons ones, if you can find the yale ones your welcome to use them but id say use samsons much clearer and every 16strand rope can be done with these instructions.

the highest gauge piano wire you can get is the best for a fid for splicing cause its much easier to pull the rope rather than push it especially in 16 strand.

We must do differnt splicing techniques,my pattern for every rope is seperate the strands,go over one and under the next until they're snugged up and tight then cut s the remaining strand with a hot knife.

New Guy, check out one of the splicing sites, its the only way to remotely understand 16 strand or double braid splices apart from someone actually showing you. 3 strand has nothing on 16 strand or double braid splices in terms of difficulty.
