Both, definately, Bashlin ALL THE WAY. I use pole gaffs on most oaks and thin bark trees and tree gaffs on old trees where the bark can be near an inch thick. especially on locust, ash ,and cottonwood. |

They are, just some place insist they're pole gaffs not short tree gaffs I suppose. I have Bashlins too, steel and alloy, with caddie pads.

But when you get thick plates of bark like say ironbark, some wattles, some pines then shorts suck! Bashlin should make a gaff in between, a medium, it would be the one gaff for all trees.

I use short. I have a pair of Buckingham adjustable climbers with removable gaffs. I have never used the long gaff on them but soon may have to. heh Straw |

So after 14 posts I've gathered that if you could only have one set of gaffs the short gaffs would be preferable?
