Hey Jim

The Kask vid is here, scroll down a few TREEGEAR TV

There is no harness, but foam like a cycling helmet, which is Kasks main product.

As i understand it is still rated to take impact from above, with foam absorbing the shock instead of the harness.

A year or more on and a bit more feedback around the Kask.
Some have had trouble with the foam crumbling.
Some have found the visors to "gum up" on the inside.
Some find it hotter because the foam sits on the head giving less ventilation than a harness style helmet.

But all in all still pretty good.

Petzl are also doing a new Vertex that has taken some design ideas from the Kask. Have they done a better job? Have to wait n see.

I do hope Pfanner do the Protos in a black/grey as well as the red/yellow.
They have both options in the clothing range so it would make sense.
It would sell a lot better most everywhere else outside europe i'm guessing.

I will be going to visit them early this year.

is there any difference between climbing helmets(eg rock climbing)and arborist helmets.
kask and vertex have the ability to have ear muffs attatched for example but if i dont use them is a climbing helmet just as good?
climbing helmets seem to be lighter and more ventilated any info would be much appreciated thankyou

Burl, there's no real difference in climbing v. arborist helmets other than the muff mounts.

I got a pacific Kevlar helmet a few months back, it's working great so far, took a wayward branch in the side of the head that would have knocked my old hard-hat off and probably gave me a good bruise on the skull, and the chinstrap held, and I was unscathed. It does get pretty hot, even here in the frozen north winter I didn't need a toque.

My only complaints are that I opted for the ridiculously powerful earmuffs, and they are pretty bulky, I would take a step down in size given the option, and I don't like the way the mesh visor sits with the Kevlar helmets. The way they are mounted the visor pretty much sits on your chin, it's not uncomfortable or anything, but it takes some getting used to.

If I could, I would probably go back and get a vertex, same price and the summer's coming, my brain-pan is gonna be mighty hot...

Find it first at TREEGEAR!
Coolest helmet ever and it works was pulling back the climbing line that was hung up in a small hanger and it flew right at the visor not a scratch thumbs up.
