Default Rigging Kits

hey guys since theres been nothing in ropes knots and rigging thought id be the one to get the ball rolling,

Rigging kits, whats in yours, what sort of typical rigging set-ups do you use, ropes, slings, lowering devices etc etc...
do you prefer good old natural crotching and trunk wraps, OR do u use pulleys, blocks and devices etc

i use yale double esterlon 9/16 and 5/8 yalex whoopie slings and a couple of double esterlon single eye slings and a few lifting slings, also heaps of sewn round slings for light work, got a XTC plus for a tag line or pulling stuff over. use SRTE pulleys and blocks good aussie gear, got SS 4" CMI as well. got the good old buckingham porta-wrap large....would love a small one anyone got one.. and friction drum....

myself and my crew try and use pulleys as much as we can even if its just a small SRT one,

Various 1/2" 12 strand and 3 strand lowering lines for smaller stuff. 9/16" Stable Braid for larger rigging (we dont do much big rigging as you could guess by the small ropes). We have:
1 ISC spring block
1 large porty
2 steel rescue pulleys
2 Al. Petzl prussik minding pulleys. One for single lines and one for double.
2 Stable Braid eye slings.
4 Tenex loopies
2 Tenex spider legs
2 Figure 8s
About 10 rigging biners of various sizes, shapes, and locking mechs.
About 10 various length slings for speed lining.
1 Fiddle block (5:1)

Thats about it for our kit. We are only a 2 man company so as climbers we always have slings, biners and an 8 on us for rigging in the tree. This set up has worked very well for us. I am sure like most people we have a GRCS on our wish list.

Pulleys or blocks are great, thing about natural crotch rigging is if you ever need to lift the piece back up .... IT SUCKS!

portwrap III, 1/2 stable braid, 5/8 woopie sling, 4" cmt block, and a dead eye sling. Both natural and false crotch rigging have their nitches.

1/2 " tree-master, 5/8 tree master, some runners, a 5-1 block and tackle, couple of blocks, slings, port-a-wrap. That's about it. Would love to have a winch or a rope puller. The grcs...someday .

natural crotch rigging out of sketchy heads isnt a bad idea as it loads the tree less than using a pulley.

Hey Cole,

I've seen some pretty good home made rigging cambium/friction savers.
I'll find some pics later...

A steel ringed cambium saver is ok too but you are limited to 1/2 rope diameter, which you can still get impressive load ratings out of some of the more technical rigging lines on the market.

It can be handy to set a rigging line from the ground, either saving you climbing out up another big leader or maybe in the head of another tree nearby. Or maybe you only need to remove a big branch in the lower canopy, so if you can set a high point for your climb & rigging lines from the ground you only need to climb straight to the branch & you're done!

There is also a rigging version of the magblock available!

I do primarily crotch rigging usually with old climblines or arborplex.

We use 1/2" Polyester Double Braid, 5/8" Polyester Double Braid, 1/2" ArborElite, and occasionally a static kernmantle (KMIII) for various situations (all New England Lines), a large Port-a-wrap, GRCS, Hobbs Device, an assortment of blocks, 3/4" Sta-Set dead-eye slings, a whoopie sling, fiddle blocks, and I'm sure a few other pieces I'm forgetting. Really, anything we could ever want as my boss sells gear.
