Default newguy's srt tech.

I figured i'd post something i've been using for srt.The ascending method saves tons of energy as opposed to footlocking but is not good for descending.I got the bugs worked out of the hitch but must warn that while it descends srt without a figure 8 it is extremly fussy and creeps just a bit after you release it,only about 1/2 an inch.

Reminds me of this cable ladder we had when we went caving .... a bugger when it's hard up against the rock face plus the spinning sucked.

Nice rope Bill!!

Is that a <gasp> screw lock biner clipping you into your harness?

I can't really comment on the technique as it's pretty different from anything I've ever used. Looks a little ungracefull, but if it works then

When ya gonna post a picture of yourself on TW?

Hard to tell anything from the fuzzy pics, but don't think that's kosher.

Hope you've moved on to some real biners, instead of that $4 screw locking toy.

Because, regardless of the knot used, none are designed or recommended to take full weight of SRT descent.

I've come down SRT on a friction hitch a couple times.....and it was obvious it was not a good thing..and that was prolly with a vt...one of the hitches least likely to overload or bind up.

What was with those loops? for your feet for going up? gracias......

The loops are because i don't trust ascenders and most srt techs i've seen involve too much gear for my liking. As for the knot it works,it does generate alot of heat so take it easy and regardless something like that can help not only our industry but maybe others as well, just trying to help others.

Don't need a 225' rope, the lan of trees no taller than about 150' remember.Besides,i'm never pruning when up that high,if i'm up 150' then the tree is coming down.Around here its usually cut the damn tree down,or leave it alone.

Well that seems funny to me. So if what you says true, you do nothing safe by an arborists standard, then how can you help anyone on this forum?

Are people meant to learn from your mistakes, like when you fall and kill yourself?

If so then thanks in advance!

I was talking about that loopdeloop mess you had going there. I guessed that you'd need a 225 footer to get up 75 feet with that funny setup you showed.

But hey, do you even have a throwline?

you wont trust a specialized purpose buit ascender but you will hang your life from a kiddy jump rope cord. check yo self before ya wreck yo self. your posts just dont add up

Nope, don't trust ascenders, that rope, spliced it myself, its a piece of my first lanyard from when i started, now its been downgraded to a saw lanyard.I don't do much in the way of srt.As for check myself before i wreck myself,my back is fubar already, plus being self destructive is too much fun.
