So, I know there are numerous threads on this site about climbing line recommendations, so I'll make this very specific. Does anyone out there climb on Blaze or Bandit. I was originally thinking about investing in Poison Ivy for it's low strech and light weight, but have been second guessing myself lately. I really want a line with lower strech and something lightweight would be nice. Sherrill lists Blaze as 11mm while Poison Ivy is 11.7mm and Blaze has 2.2% stretch while PI has 1.8% or something like that. I don't think that I'm really going to notice .4% stretch or .7mm though I could be wrong. I suppose I should add in that I climb on a VT with HRC prussic chordage and currently have HI-VEE, which is alright, it's just a pain to footlock. I have a Tachyon lanyard, which I love but I can't really get a new Tachyon climbing line due to some political issues in the company I work for.Anyway, how do you guys feel about these products? |

Tachyon is by New England, same manufacturer as your Hi-Vee??? The stretch difference is minimal, you wont likely notice, maybe slightly when hanging on a very long length eg 100ft+ Poison Ivy/Bluemoon: 11.7mm 6500lb ave strength <2% stretch at WLL Weighs 6.5lb per 100' Benefits: Fuller grip in hand, strong. Cons: Bulkier, heavier. Blaze/Bandit: 11mm 5600lb ave strength <3% stretch at WLL Weighs 6lb per 100' Benefits: Cheaper, light Cons: weakest, thin hand grip Velocity: 11mm 6000lb ave strength 2.1% stretch at WLL weighs 5.6lb per 100' Benefits: Strong, light, low stretch, less bulk Con: Thin hand grip Tachyon: 11.5mm 6800lb ave strength <3% stretch at WLL weighs 5.8lb per 100' Benefits: Strongest, still very light,full-ish hand grip. Cons: Dearest. In my opinion Tachyon is the best balance of all factors. By the way, in Australia, TREEGEAR is the only supplier to give you the choice of all of those brands at the one place. Yeah BOY i got bandit..............its cool , light and nice to climb on, get your Friction Hitch right and it will be all good, i use 8mm armor plus prussick cord, but 8mm bee line would be the same (ish) and a French prussick hitch with a micro pully! awesome for mod footlicking, and climbing around the canopy! oh and the best thing bout the bandit is ............ clip a little bina and a 10 oz harrison rocket bag, and that sucker is almost like a throw line up there ive always got one cliped on my harness ![]() trevs right with the feel in the hand, i prity much always climb in finger less ( i cut them) garden glove's, so i dont realy notice it, but when i havent have gloves on it does feel kinda small.......... but no biggie for me. steve ps. oh yea its Camo, cum on who dosent want sum?

Thank you both for your help. I'm still pretty up in the air right now, but I think I have it narrowed down between blaze and tachyon.

$250 for a 25m roll. that was a deal tho. noramally around $13.30 p/m. the 10mm is over $300 p/roll. good stuff for rope bridges tho. donaghys make some good as stuff. i got an access line thats from them too. dont know what its called tho but its real low stretch polyester.

neither. its black with yellow fleck. is an industrial abseil rope. wicked good and half the price of spectra speed. i'll find out the name. im pretty sure it was developed in conjuction with donaghys and they scrapped the idea after they started with that other abseil rope response xt because the elongation was too low for industry standards. im stoked about it. i bought 55m for $150. apparently they've got heaps lying around.

velocity and blaze are the best choices in the list. i used tachyon and the stuff felt like a rubber band. i know what the stretch numbers are but the difference is extreme between the ropes. i like blaze but as others will tell you its hard to grip on the hands and feet, velocity has some tacky coating that fixes the grip issue. just wear the latex coated gloves and you will be happy with the performance of the rope. i have and used all of the ropes mentioned in this thread and Velocity is the best rope available. tachyon is stretchy and bounces a great deal, blaze is great but hard to grip. Velocity is perfect!!!

Thank you for that response. I hadn't really been thinking about Velocity, but will now have to take a closer look. |

Just an update. My wonderful parents heard through the grapevine that I was in need of a new climbing line and also that I liked tachyon, so they bought it for me for Christmas. Even better, my awesome wife bought me a new rope boss rope bag from Sherrill. Can't wait for all this snow to go away so I can check it all out. Thank you all for your advice. I really appriciate it.

I climbed 5 trees today on my new line. It's so nice. Runs so smooth, so light... just a great line. I don't think I could be happier with a climbing line.
