That's a bloody good idea, I'm not into fires here but Lopa ... he's ya regular Victorian pyromaniac, has some huge burns in winter in the name of waste removal.

Jeez you got it good. I have to burn away all of our wood at my mates place on the weekend - as long as the neighbours don't call the fire brigade on us.

We use schools to offload a lot of our mulch or if we can get some quality control we contact larger landscape companies and work out a reciprocal deal with them. Another way is to advertise in the local schools paper (some of your staff will have kids at a school nearby to get a foot in) and give it to the parents. With our timber we have contacted a wildlife park on the outskirts of town and give them big hollows other than that we rip and chip or factor in the dump fees when we scope.

Gday Brad

Good idea about the hollow logs for parks, well worth looking into for others that one.

The best money I get for logs is $30 per ton for plywood logs which can be poplar or pine. Must be cut to 17ft. 8inches and be at least 10inches at the small end and no limbs or defects of any kind. Not a lot of my logs make the grade due to being cut out of people's yards.

The wife has given me the go ahead to buy a mill, it's just me that is the hold up(she claims she has no influence, Ha!). I want to get a LumberMate 2000 and just may do it. Usually I talk about something a few years before making a move so thankfully lots of ideas get dropped.LOL
I usually burn the logs. The dump right up the road takes limbs and brush for free.Hey where you at in Georgia?

we get rid of our chip at a horse riding school on a farm. They brought treated chip but it still rotted down quickly, so they keep topping up the training area with our chip. They let us store our timber there, we sell that as a mixed load (hard & certain soft) for ?150 for a full tipper load. beer money!

Our chips go to a tree nursery to bury the tree balls in for winter. 2 other spots that we dump for free at haul them to a power plant where they are burned for fuel. Cold winters here- people almost beg you for wood.

Not having a chipper I don't have chips..... but I bring most of the unused wood here... I've got a pile going that's up to about 5 feet high and several hundred feet long... piled in different piles as according to the project and type of tree. People up here will buy anything for firewood

When I don't get paid for a job I let the deadbeats know that Ol' Monkeywrencher George Hayduke is going to take off dump fees from their bill. The first load goes either at the front door of the house or tight up to the garage door.

Clients have asked what I do with the chips and that's what I tell them, joking And then I watch their faces. They are already calculating the cost to make sure that they pay me ontime.

Mate of mine is in the skip bin business. First Sunday of each month he goes around "returning" rubbish to those non-payers.
Generally at 6am, right up to the garage door and starts tipping.
You'd be surprised how many people find the cash to pay all of a sudden!!!

Around here, I take the wood chips and logs. Hell I'll even pick up the logs if its hard wood!

I use the chips of erosion control on a fill project I have going.

As most already know, Nursery's will take the chips, but another use is at any dirt parking lots. Places that are storing trailers, heavy equipment, long dirt roads. The stuff decomposes fast when getting run over and helps keep the mud down. When I had an equipment Yard, I had the whole area covered with chips. Stuff is not good on a hill so make sure you only place it on flat surfaces.
