whats your choice, do you use a splice? for me its velocity or blaze 24 strand 150ft spliced double braid, i like the weight, feel, and the ability to easily splice it. i also like its low stretch properties and flexibility for tying knots and such. if there was one thing i could change about the rope it would have to be upping the MBS.

NE Hi Vee here too... Wouldn't mind grabbing that poison ivy though, that rope seems like the dux' nuts... (from my limited experience)

*Therrin speaks up timidly and says...* Blue Water II+ 7/16" (11.3mm) 200' = 10.6lbs Double twist cabled sheath strands and double twist cabled core strands; static/ low elongation rope. Tensile strength = 7193 lbf (3 sigma tensile rating) Static elongation is 1.5% at 300 lbf., 2.6% at 600 lbf. It's heavy rope but I've been using that specific type for ...9 years now? Rock/Rescue/& Trees. A little stiff... I'd like to get something a little easier to work and a little lighter at some point. |

Samson, ArborMaster, (blue Streak). The blue is softer than the brw. No splice. Anchor hitch & blakes.

200 feet of Samson Blue Streak 1/2" with a splice on both ends. Safety Blue 1/2" split tail with blakes advanced with a micro pulley and dog leash snap. I never had a milking problem with the Blue Streak so always have had a splice on both ends, I just rotate the rope in the rope bag for even wear. I tried the newer thinner ropes but went back to the old reliable 1/2" Blue Streak which offers better hand, footlocking and friction hitch grip, along with the meaty 1/2" Safety Blue split tail which is a joy to work with. I tried the Distel hitch with a 8-10 mm Bee-Line and it was just a pain in the butt, maybe great for a tree climbing competition but for all day tree work 1/2" rules for me. The Blue Streaks heavier weight is also best for advancing the blakes while footlocking or limbwalking. |

I'd use splices if I knew how to splice but I can't see spending the kind of bucks it cost to buy spliced ropes and tress cords. Of course for hanging block I put out and buy spliced. It has been a while since we posted in the same thead. I've been here almost from the start and was glad to see it when you signed on here.

I love my Stable Braid. All my rigging lines are Samson Stable Braid,1/2",5/8"& 3/4".Hardly ever use the 3/4" though[good tow rope]. But I have never heard of Stable Braid used for a climbing line. |

I've used stable braid , and arborplex both stable braid needs a fair amount of breakin time , where arborplex doesn't stretch at all, I do have the 1 inch heavy stable braid for trunk work big wood never parted it once, but its really heavy rope .... never as a climbing line...

Blaze , Velocity hot and Poison Hi-vis for work climbing. All 200 feet hanks. The blaze and velocity have tight eyes and the P.I. has a regular splice. I use HTP red for SRT, bought 600 feet and cut 2 300 ft. lengths out of it. I find myself using the Poison Ivey most of the time. |

For $400+ I can take a 2 day training course through Arboriculture Canada Training & Education and learn how to splice 16 strand, and get to keep the tool kit too. But I just keep supporting my arborist supply dealer and get the factory made stuff. I love my spliced eyes on my climbing lines, even on my rigging lines too. Some day I'll take that course. | |

I only splice my fliplines,i make my own out of 3/4" 3 strand rope and bee line 10mm prusik cord,i like the 4 wrap prusik for my adjustment point.I crotch rig so 3 strand rigging line, and i tail tie my climbline.Splices are okay, but i think knot tying is essential to know and be able to do.
