Default ISC Vertical pro Help needed!!

Hi guys,

My boss has kindly surprised me with a brand new lowering kit, for use on a couple of lombardy poplars on monday morning.

The portawrap is an ISC vertical pro (ISC Fos-9) and comes with no instructions. My problem is that this is different to what I've used before,

The loops that attach to the anchor are in line with the length of the tube,
not at right angles, so you can't put a bight through the upper loop.

I've searched the net, talked to every climber I know but no-one has used one of these.

Can anyone point me in the right direction

Here's ISC's website. ISC - Manufacturers of Safety Equipment and Components
I've looked it over and can't seem to find any directions for the port-a-wrap you have. Maybe I've overlooked something...

Subject: ISC vertical pro (ISC Fos-9) Portawrap

Hi

I'm writing to obtain any literature regarding the use of the above mentioned porta-wrap.

It has recently been featured here.
ISC Vertical pro Help needed!!

It appears people aren't sure on how to use it, any information would help, you can join the forum and reply or add pictures and documents. Failing that you can respond to me and I'll post the information up.

Regards

Cheers

I can't find info anywhere, and time constraints prevented me from even contacting the supplier..

I'm just leaving for work now and was hoping to play with the new toys/ save myself some work chogging the sticks down.

I've ever used these flying capstan setups once before, bringing down a Beech on a hillside above a property. Pretty impressive bit of kit in the right hands.

Just to update.

I emailed the supplier last wednesday, to request any instructions that they may have. Hopefully I'll get a reply in the next few days.

Gary

Nice one Biggaz, you'd think it would be easier to find some simple rigging instructions for what seems a popular piece of kit.
Seems the company just assumes anyone buying one is familiar with the operation? Please nobody take this the wrong way, but ISC is maybe owned by a climber.(kidding folks)
I was curious myself, have yet to use on of these, and now I have a much better idea of how you could utilize one.

I'm pretty P,ed off. I emailed the supplier the thursday before good friday, to ask for any instructions. Not even a reply to say that they had received my email. This kit was over £600.00 so its not peanuts. Big companies are pretty poor on the customer service front.

Not a clue to be honest. I used the whole lowering kit on a awkward tree earlier this year, working in conjunction with another company. Day and a half roping out the canopy.

Next step would have been either chogging down handleable lumps of timber or small lengths on ropes. Brought the whole thing down in 90 minutes on this kit, what a learning curve for me!!!

I asked my boss as a joke, "why haven't we got this gear?" and this is what we've got. Any way, it's not me that has to use it I Just tie it on an cut it off

No response for me either ... big companies are bloody hopeless at customer service. Fancy not having instructions on the website.

600 pounds is EXPENSIVE, I'll stick with a simply porty, jeez you'd almost be into a Hobbs or GRCS for that sort of money in UK wouldn't you?

The larger bending radius, created by the utilisation of bigger tubing in it's manufacture is a huge advantage whilst rigging larger loads. I don't know of a porty with a higher SWL.

What is the SWL of that unit?

Porty is 2000KG I think.

Bend ratios ... are relevant to rope diameter, what is recommended max rope dia for that unit? Most units run best up to around 5/8" rope, maybe 3/4" max ... over that it's getting a bit rugged.

Just bought one and had exactly the same problem.

Is the diagram shown the method to use?

yeah, that appears the way ... but still weird to me. Fancy having to clip a biner in there for security. And that is the end that bashes into the trunk.
