That's a bloody strong rope! I cant see the melting point being so low, seems odd. Wonder how much it costs?

Yeah that looks real good, not as strong but is double braid with higher melting point jacket. They were in Adelaide (A Noble and Son), check that on price too!

Those ropes both look pretty impressive, very strong for DIA. Did you consider using steel cable for hauling with excavator? |

The low melting point is not an issue unless you are running it thru a crotch. Used as a pull line the 140C melting point is a non-issue. With that melting point I think the fiber is Dyneema. This is a great new fiber. It is even a replacement for Kevlar in bullet proof clothing. Dyneema fiber makes an excellant replacement for wire winch cables. It's low melting point does not seem to detract from it's effectivness. It is a very light, extremely strong, low stretch, abrasion resistant, fiber. Best thing is that you do not have to worry about "fish hooks" when you are handling it. As with any of the modern, high strength, low stretch, ropes you must be careful about how you attatch it to something. Not all knots work well. Spliced eyes are preferable. Most of the modern fibers do not like to make tight bends. The tighter the bend, the greater the loss of strength. It is so light that it floats and does not adsorb water. It is also unaffeced by UV and most common chemicals including oil and gasoline.

Amazing to have a fiber stronger than steel. Many winch cables on new chippers are this stuff, feels a little inadequate when you start hauling a log but it's strong alright.

Sampson has the rope you are looking for. These high strength ropes have the breaking strength but not the duribility of cable but take a look http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files...st_Catalog.pdf |

treesailor I use Samson ropes and give them the thumbs up. However their toughest rope is tenex and 1" dia is 20,000kg breaking. The equivalent in newer high tech fibre for that dia such as plasma is 50,000kg. There's a whole new breed of high tech ropes and fibre out way stronger than tenex. Lopa's after these to replace steel cable as they are stronger than steel. Samson doesn't do these ropes yet. The yachting guy I go to for some rope splicing etc uses these newer ropes to replace the cable used on the masts etc. Welcome to Tree World

Hi, have you heard of LB Wire Ropes, LB Wire Ropes I used to buy all my ropes there, the old guy has gone but his grandson runs it now. If they don't have it they can get it and there prices are good. Last edited by Eric Frei; 27th November 2007 at 09:12 PM. Reason: added link, cool |
