Default Friction saver?

how many of you folks use a web sling with a tri-lock biner and a screw link as a friction saver??? tried it here at home, seems pretty strong, haven't climbed on it yet( low and slow), but it seems good?

seems like it would be the cat's butt for moving your TIP up while in-tree..
thanks
Cary

Strength wouldn't be my worry, but rather expense and convenience. When you want to retrieve it from the ground, do you have something that is guaranteed always to pass through the biner but not the screw link? Using round rings of different ID's can give you that ironclad guarantee. I don't mind watching the rings banging into limbs on the way down; I would be a little bit alarmed watching a tri-lock biner doing the same thing.

Yeah i never like seeing an aloy biner crash and bash its way to the ground, often use a throwline to remove it.
1 its easy
2 it looks good
3 saves bashing the biner
4 if it gets stuck you have more options to get it down

Does anyone prefer these to a ringed friction saver? Seems rather foolproof and takes some of the stress off of the friction hitch.

ART rope guide is what i use. before that i used to use the buckingham cambium saver but the art rope guide is just like climbing bliss its girthing installation capabilities without the need of a branch union to install are great and if u can master the "doubel Snapper" retreival device it makes its easier and safer for your and the rope guide when removing the item from the tree

When I first used the rope guide I hated it, but like most things if you give them a chance they can make climbing so much easyer, especially as I get older and don’t climb full time.

I dont like the ART rope guide i think its to big and $$$, I use one made out of a pulley, rope and prussic.

yeah and who does like making life easier hey, what do you mean by big ? i brought mine couple of years ago cost around $250. i think its also great because you have control when removing it from the tree, ive seen how fast some cambium savers come down from trees...

Smile Re: Friction saver?

The rope guide is very nice. I made my own, custom to me likings. Here is a quick mock-up of the one i made. the difference in the mock-up and the final piece is the cocoon roley, Samson gold rope w/ double end splice, ultra tech eye-n-eye prussic, and a s.s. Harken snap shackle. I used the velocity in my test rig cause the easy splice ability, and did not want any mistakes on the final piece, also i have tons of the stuff. The final rig is awesome! Notice the retrieval ball drilled and advanced to the splice so there is no screwing or dropping the ball. Also i added another pic of a quick, easy, and cheap rig/friction saver made from a krab, AL. ring, Tenex, and a nylon tube for added protection. these are 2 great projects for the skilled do-it-yourself splicers @ the Tworld, Enjoy

Yeah make your own using web sling or an old climb rope. use a maillon and a tri-lock biner. plenty strong and safe and cheap to boot!

never herd of it mike, got a pic. most refer 2 arbormaster as a 16 strand rope made by Samson, or training courses from a skilled, elite groupe of arborists
