Default different way of thinking about friction hitch

diffrent way to put friction hitch in tree and remove it ( not always the best way though). Oh ya sorry about the speed line thing made this for the rescue team first.

Good on you!

Maybe for retrieval a slightly bigger line than throw line on the cambium saver case you get a little stuck.

Also to prevent it from falling to the ground a throw line perhaps on the climbing line as you pull the climbing line out.

Once the climbing line is gone the throw line is through the rings. Have you tried that, see if it binds too as the throw line will go around the branch.

Other option I suppose is pull the climbing line out of the big ring only leaving it set in the little ring with a knot.

Try and see I suppose.

Hey now thats cool! Good stuff Fairfield.

I could think of a few uses of girth hitches the cambium saver from the ground could come in handy... I'll name one:

Your doing a prune and your high point branch is horizontal or sloping downwards, set your cambium saver like seen in the video and presto you've got some securtity about your cambium saver sliding about. Although I would advise that once you're up there, wrap it around the trunk

I got a question for those of you who use cambium savers,How much of a difference in friction is there and should i start close to the ground until i get the hang of one when/if i buy one?

Definately start close to the ground any hidden problems within your friction hitsh will no longer be hidden.....without the friction at the crotch it all comes down to your hitch! The way you have become accustomed to it behaving will be a faint memory the moment you start using a cambium/rope saver...even more so when climbing on a pulley!!!! Personally I love the (now) few occaisions I get to climb on a pulley, smooth and fast, it realy does feel like a dance up there!

Pulley for the win!

Just gotta go back and get it though, but that is normally far outweighed by the ease at which you get around the tree.

Unless you use a pulley/friction saver combo, but they are a bit of a compromise.

Either way newguy, get off the bark, if not for the trees, just to make it easier for yourself.
